Grow your own.

Pat's reloading.

IMR 4895, about $100/#8 pounds, about 1000 rounds.

147 fmjbt about $55/K

primers about $20/K

Brass: save yours.

an all time cheapie relaoder:

the Lee reloader. Neck size it for your own rifle.

I started that way.

You could still get Aussie ball on strippers in bandos in a .30 can for 37 plus shipping from almost anyone.

I have noticed that too. It always used to be cheaper than .223 now it is drying up like 30.06.

I used to get it for about $0.15 a round and now it seems to be around $0.22. I did find some cheap Indian .308 but I don't know if I trust it. One of the cases had pretty severe corrosion on it.

If you're plinking get the aussie surplus, for serious shooting (serious as in precision shooting/hunting), I've been using the Black Hill 168gr HP, which isn't exactly cheap.

Just wait till you have to buy real .308 Win,not 7.62X51!

My Savage 99 only uses .308 Win ,  had too sell off all my 7.62X51 to my son-in-law!!!

I was buying it for 6.95 a box of twenty(PMP) now up to 9.75 for same brand now made in Herizog or some such place(I liked that SA PP)!

Australlian is the best surplus...

Most guns have NO problem interchanging commercial & milsurp, ESPECIALLY bolt actions.

Yes but you know the Savage 99 has many great things about it,rotery mag, great steel, strong lock up.lever action!    But it has never been known for a strong extractor or ejector!!!!

So yes most bolts never know the difference!!

I bought a Rem 700 in .223 rem,so sold off all my battle packs of 5.56 to my son-in-law!

So last week I buy a pre-ban Sporter on the EE,have too buy all the 5.56 back!!!

So the same as my Savage lever don't like the nato ,my rem don't like the nato!

So I traided or sold off all my military shit and am now into hunting rifles(lever mostly) but decided I needed a Colt Sporter to  round things off!!!

So I have sold off twenty six guns and am down to only ten!!   Not much for us guys but to a liberal they would think I have an arsenal!

Be prepapred to wait a month or more from them.  I've had an order in for 4 boxes now for exactly one month.  Still no word on when it will arrive (Tommy is out of town at the moment I believe).

.223 REM vs 5.56 NATO is an ENTIRELY different ballgame than .308 Win vs 7.62 NATO.

7.62 NATO is the ORIGINAL round, and should work fine in eather weapon (308 is the later commercialization of 7.62x51...

Similarly, .223 is the ORIGINAL round of that family, and .223 works fine in both 5.56 and .223 chambers...

Neck size only if the brass has been fired in your rifle and it is not a semi-auto.  Semi-auto's require full length sized brass.
