Check state laws, It's legal here but maybe not by you. Hell it's legal for us to have CS(or was it CN) ones to IIRC. |

I don't think that the smoke itself is a problem, but the pinned fuze inside it may be a classified item

They're not illegal here in AZ, but if you get arrested for one reason or another, you're neighbors will know you had "Possible illegal assault weapons and GRENADES!"
It won't matter if they are smoke..The media will make it sound like they were frag's just like they did in Waco with the WWII pineapple grenade bodies the BD's had.... |

smoke grenades and flare guns are commonly used by boaters for distress signals, so if they are legal for boaters they should be legal for any citizen.

Years ago there was an influx of East German smoke grenades. Most dealers at gun shows had them for $12-$14, but I found one that had them for $7 each. I sold a bunch off to a friend a couple years back.

M18's are about $40 ea until you get to purple (rare), then they go for $70+
Spendy, but make a LOT of smoke. Like Parachute flares, the legality is a greyline. They aren't illegal per se, but if they are looking really really hard for "a reason" they might nab the fuze, haven't heard of it though. |

If you just need the smoke for some reason and not an actually smoke grenade, another option could be industrial type non-explosive smoke generating devices used to test boilers, pressure vessels, sewer lines, etc. after repairs to make sure everthing is tight. I know some of these are made by Cherne Industries Inc. out of Minneapolis, MN at 1800-the-plug. I'm in no way affialiated with this company, we just use their three minute smoke devices occasionaly at work. I don't know how they get the three minute rating listed on the device as it burns and smokes for a hell of a lot longer than three minutes. Lots of smoke from a 1 1/4"dai. x 5" long smoke bomb.
I think our cost is something like $3-$5 for the smoke device I described. |

1. If you bought an M18 smoke 2. Registered it as a destructive device 3. Paid the $200 tax 4. Took out the fuze and removed the smoke chemicals 5. Replaced them with black powder What would happen? |
