Why do SF and contractors wear "civilian" clothing, ie non camouflage clothing?  I would have thought since they are the Uber, they would want to be camouflaged so they wont be seen.

Its not like they want to blend in with the locals, because how many locals do you see which are lean young males who are non arabs and carry tricked out funtoys etc.

Is it so they appear less hostile and more friendly so they can communicate with local people?

If you're talking about Iraq, it's because there's a regulation that if you're wearing a uniform you have to conform to AR670-1 whether you're military or not.

Yeah, Iraq.

WTF is AR670-1?

Wouldnt SF apply to that thing anyway?

The other thing is, there is a shitload of non-arab civilians running around over there.

AR670-1 is the Army regulation governing clothing and appearance.

would you rather have something that was what everyone else was wearing or somthing that was FUNCTIONAL ?

most of it is personal prefrence.  SF is about getting the mission accomplished, not about 'looking pretty'.  also, SF types are HVT's for the enemy.  you'll see sterile uniforms/clothing most often.

Contractors don't wear uniforms because they do not want to appear to be trying to be soldiers-the command frowns on that, too....
