I was wondering if any of you would be willing to help our brothers in California, now that the .50
caliber ban has been passed in that state.
I was thinking of an open letter to all manufacturers of .50 caliber rifles, and ammo manufacturers as well.
The idea is simple: To make a mockery of the .50 ban by the introduction of a very slightly modified
cartridge and chamber that gives equal performance but is legal by the letter of the law.
I would suggest that the new round would be named the .499 Schwarzenegger.
It's .499 caliber and the cartridge length from the case head to the shoulder is about .050" shorter than the M2 .50 caliber round, thereby making it impossible to chamber a .50 round.
Or implement other changes that allow you to keep .50 ballistic performance while having a chamber that a .50 M2 round just won't fit into.
I'm not even in California. This isn't my dog in the fight. But I can certainly write a letter, and you can, too!
Just one person asking for this isn't going to help, but if a bunch of people were to join in and put their names to it, it just MIGHT be a good thing for our friends in California....and maybe in other states, later, if some other state follows suit.
Think about it.
