Today I received a 9mm upper and as you know it requires a hammer change.  I have been up and down the upper, replacing front sight blocks, gas tubes handguards, etc.  But I had always been afraid of the lower with all its springs and tension held parts.

But something happened today my friends, something inside me yelled "grow a pair and get in there, son"

So my friends, I delved into the depths of the AR known as the LOWER.  With trembling hands and brightflashlights' punch tool (which he lent me.  that's right a merchant LENT me a tool), I stuck two fingers in and as greasy as they got, I dared not withdraw them without the prize.  She gave no fight as she beared her hammer, her tension relieved, disconnector hanging uselessly for a moment.  Then I put the spring on the new hammer and fit her in there.

My friends today I went in the lower a boy and came out a man.

That's right, I took out the 223 hammer and put in the 9mm hammer

ME!!! I didn't pay anyone, ask anyone for help, or anything like that.   Not like I didn't TRY paying my friends, they just told me that I had to do it myself!

I am master of all that is AR.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(now on to FAL's.)

Can you use .223 with a 9mm hammer, or will that result in disaster? What hammer for .45?

I think its time for you to build an AR from a solid aluminum bilit.  If you can change a hammer, it time to move on.

Congrats!!!

Well you can look up my posts.  Most of them are "talk me out of this" or "why is this better than this" type threads.  A few political threads here and there.

Fact is , I've spent over thirteen thousand dollars on rifles and accesories since I registered here.  And I know that every single penny was well spent cause of the fountain of knowledge that is arfkom.  Coming into the RKBA arena as a noob, I didn't have to trial and error my way to the best gear.  I had you guys [sniff].

And that's where most of my posts go.  In March 2004 I had a ruger PC9 with a tasco on top, a WASR-10 and a saiga in 223.

As of today I have:

My prized AR, an all DPMS 16 inch stainless steel bull barrel resting on a harris bipod with dpms mangonels and an IOR 1.1-4x on arms 22H's, G27 grip and a VLTOR clubfoot A1 stockwith socom pad.

My newest member, an all RRA 9mm with the surefire handguards, fobus vert grip, weaponized G2, trijicon tripower on a larue mount on a swan sleeve with arms 40 and a Crane stock.

My required preban -all colt.  preban sporter 2 lower with a preban colt sp1 upper, m44 handguards, ARMS 39 bi level mount, RRA collapser with cheek rest and the old tasco delta scope on top, with a  streamlight TL-3 on the side.

My venture into the FAL field, an L1A1 with a 1913 rail on top holding a swift scope 1.5-4.5, SAW furniture on the way.  Keeping it simple cuase she's stunning.

My new preban norinco 56S maybe 20 rounds in her since 1989, NY import (SILE) presently wearing the ultimak scout mount, TDI trirail handguard,TDI "K" style vert grip TDI G27 grip, AMD folding stock, surefire 662 weapon light and tacpoint sitting on top.

And of course a mossberg with a speedfeed stock for shooting when not at the range.  :-)

In addition to that I have more surefire batteries than I'd like to admit.  I also have developed a fondness for colt branded magazines - ten rounders for the DPMS target rifle, 20s and 30s for the others.  But thermolds are growing on me.

I have not made one purchase since signing up for Afkom that I regret.

That's a statement in and of itself.
