Be proud. I know lots of 20 somethings that do nothing but sit on their ass and expect everyone else to keep them up.

My Dad to me, 16 years old, just getting ready to start at Chuck E Cheese:

"When somebody tells you to pick something up off the floor, don't stand there looking like a stupid ass - just do it."

(One our warmest moments together if I recall correctly)

Good. Now put him on a budget so that he can appreciate the value of every nickle he brings home. Make sure he understands how much of his gross wages vanish to the tax man.

My first "corporate job" was working at Pioneer Chicken.
My mom busted my ass about hanging out at the beach all summer long, so I got the job.

When I came home after that first night of cleaning grease traps, shitters and deep fryer grease vats smelling like shit and covered in grease she softened her stance and told me to quit.

I did get a warehouse job that following week.

Good on your boy sgtar15.
Are you going to charge him rent now?

You can learn a lot of lessons working fast food.  People skills, management, logistics, etc.  But most of all, it is a starting point, a point that will motivate you to obtain the skills, education, etc. to never have to do that particular job again, ever.

Would you like fries with that?

Congrats.

A third of his take per month.. That's what I was told was a "safe and sane" limit on rent expenses.  On the other hand, you may want to let him save that $$ for a vehicle if he's using yours.. A cheap, safe, POS preferably.. Never seen a kid's first car that wasn't trashed when they were done with it, and better it be his than yours.
