Cpl. Lonnie Young kneels next to his wounded comrade in high spirits, despite the fact there is a bullet lodged in his back. Young, a Defense Messaging System administrator by trade, learned first-hand that every Marine is a rifleman when the base he was working on in An Najaf, Iraq came under attack by approximately 800 anti-coalition militiamen, April 4, 2004. Young fought alongside seven Blackwater Security personnel in an effort to secure the base.

I'm sure it did. I've recovered bullets in various calibers that had just been fired through bales of hay some seconds before at the improvised gun range I have at the family farm in Alabama, and even after about 30 seconds, most bullets are too hot to handle. The larger bullets hold their heat longer, too.

The field-expedient shoulder sleeves (groin protectors wrapped around the arm and sewn in place, IIRC, I thought I heard they might become a sanctioned mod) serve to stop that exact injury.
