With the proper tax stamps paid (SBR) could the following be done?

Take an H&K P9S in .45 cal (pistol), insert the 8" Hunter Barrel, thread it for a can (already have tax stamp paid on it), then attach a buttstock on to the rear of the handgrip.  Basically, sort of like the old Artillery model Luger - making it into a carbine?

If you add a stock and the barrel is under 16" then it has to be a SBR tax paid NFA item.

So...your ansewer is YES!

Agreed. I'd like to get an idea of how you plan your stock. I've been thinking of something similar making an adaptor to mount under the grips using longer grip screws and attaching a Car15 stock. I've thought about shaving down the grips to keep the thickness comfortable.

Sweet - I really didn't want to lop the barrel down and figured it would kick ass to have a stocked P9S in .45 with a can on it.  Much more accurate.

My gunsmith and I are going to try and figure out how to engineer a stock that can be quick-detached.  Don't know if it is possible, but I'll keep you informed on it.

Stuff the barrel in the can and post pics!
