I don't know what it is called. But that is what the docs want to put into my back to stabilize my spine. I already have the cages installed and they are failing (they are the round things on the right. After they install this contraption they will later remove it in two years. No...no...and hell no. My dad's x-rays look just like that. He had the surgery 5 1/2 months ago and is almost back in full swing. Only mobility problems are bending over to pick things up. Getting better by the day. He's 53.

I have a smaller version of that; C5/C6 and a titanium plate. Its better than the alternative, which if left untreated would have been a wheelchair.

There's supposed to be some new climp style thingy out now "cuting edge" they say.
Its supposed to make fusion a thing of the past. Apperently right after you get out of OR and are awake enough they have you stand up and it locks in place. From what I have heard the reports on that have been very favorable. I don't know much about it other than its "new" hell may even been what that X-ray is I don't know. But worth looking into. Wolf |

Dang feller ! I hope there is another alternative. My Dad had back surgery when I was 14 or so. He had these two humongus scares on both left and right side of his lower spine. It was awful. I hope everything turns out ok for you! Good luck. take care. Coondog

No, I was working on a car and the damn nut wouldn't come out. So while using a breaker bar I heard 4 LOUD popping noises.....they were my disks exploding. Years of manual labor on a skinny body frame finally took it's toll. SGatr15 |

I had a fusion performed between C5 and C6 but I didn't have much of a choice. The Dr. told me "your disc looks like a wad of chewed up bubble gum, you can either have it removed and have the bones fused together or you can risk being a quadraplegic from the slightest bump from here on out."
I had the surgery. The neck has never hurt again and there has never been any numbness since. A headache every now and then, but that could be from anything. On the other hand the bone used to fuse C5 and C6 together was taken from my pelvis and that hurt so bad I thought I was going to die. Use donor bone from a cadaver. |
