I just bought 360 rds of light green box 5.56 X 45mm ammo SS109 steel core green tip, date of manufacture is Feb 03 for $43, Is this stuff any good?

I've found it to be Exceptionally good ammo.  Minute group is almost the norm.

Has worked for me.  I had some problem with bad seated 9mm rounds but not that many.

Pretty good $123 a case at that rate, Id buy it.

I tried some S&B 12 gauge buckshot and it jammed in my Mossy 590 pump.  I had never seen rounds that wouldn't cycle in a pump action.

I fired atleast 2K rounds of the 55gr stuff through my ARs until I heard people whining about it blowing up their rifles.

I never had a problem with it.

I've reloaded hundreds of thier 45 acp brass multiple times and had no problems.

I have shot over 1k rounds through my Kimber during IDPA matchs and have never had a problem with.

I've had real good luck with their .303 British, though it's loaded significantly lighter than US commercial ammo.  Done ok with their 9mm and .45 as well, but I find them dirtier than other brass cased as was mentioned.

I've No problems with any of their ammo.  And used pistol, rifle and shotgun ammo alike.  Decent stuff but I dont reload so wouldn't know about the brass, YMMV

I shoot it on my 1911. It's cheap and just as reliable/accurate at more expensive stuff. Only downside is that it gunks up the gun a little more than necessary.

Oh, and I think it's made in France.

I shoot S&B in .45 and .223, I've put about 1500 rounds in my AR15 and about 1000 rounds of .45  NEVER HAD PROBLEM

This is my long term experience with S&B Ammo.

*The SS109 Stuff is quite excellent. The brass, the round and the charge all seem to have very little deviatiions in weight and groups with it are very good.

*The 55 grain S&B I tried. (1200 rnds) Was not close to the quality of the 62 grain. I had primers which were pre-crushed. I had rounds that pushed into the case on feeding. (AR) Though the accuracy was good I would say stay away from this stuff.

On a side note: This stuff came from a different factory than 62 grain (so I was told) but boxed as S&B.

*I went to a shooting school and brought 1400 rnds of 45 ACP 230 grain S&B Ball ammo. This ammo has very little flash at night, is very accurate, and I fired all 1400 rnds (USP no cleaning) no problems.

On a side note: I fired the same 45 S&B through a Wilson Combat CQB (Which has 4 to 5000 rnds through it without one hickup) I found extraction problems with 1 out of 50 rnds. I measured the rim of the S&B 45 with White Box Win 45 to find the rim was not as extreme and the surface area not as great.

*The 308 168 Grain Match King Rounds S&B is awesome stuff. In a shooting vice and with my Steyr Scout I was able to fire a 20 rnd string in side a quarter at 100 yrds.


*I have fired the 357 Sig and 12 Ga Stuff also and found them ok.

I've fired the same S&B ammo thru an m-4, semi m-4, mini 14 and a m-96, no problem. The 12 ga buckshot is a little dirty and smokey but cycles my semi good. The 9mm, 40 short & weak and the 45 acp are good too.

I usually get split necks from the first firing of S&B ammo.  It shoots great, but won't fragment,  The jacket contains steel.  I use what I have up, but don't buy any more.
