A good friend and I like to come up with our own little brain teasers and things like that. Four months ago, he sent me the following below with the question, "What should the next 10 numbers be and what do they represent?" I've taken the liberty to highlite where the changes occur:

For 2 months I tried to figure it out. So I e-mailed him and told him I have no friggin clue. Instead of giving me the answer, he e-mailed me back with the not only the next ten numbers, but a whole series of numbers that follow the ones above:

I've already admitted defeat for a second time in the fact that I don't have a clue what the next 10 numbers should be except for a wild guess or what they represent. Told him I wanted to run this by some of you geniuses to see if any of you could get it.

Edit, tags aren't working, changed format from the way they were originally posted. Orginally they all just ran in one line all the way across the page. Verticle viewing of the numbers has nothing to do with the question.

no idea

each group of 10 numbers for the first 9 groups add up to 101
then one group of 10 adds up to 92
then the next 8 groups of 10 numbers add up to 1001 then one group adds up to 992, then the last group of 10 adds up to 1010, so ... ??

I found out later(after I left for another job) that he had spent literally days and days trying to decode my mail. It drove him nuts to the point of asking friends and coworkers if they knew what I was up to.

Anyway sorry for the hijack.

They represent palindromic numbers, numbers that are the same forward and backwards.

Starting at 0 and adding 11 you get 11, the first number that is the same forward and backwards.

11+11=22, 22+11=33...88+11+99, 99+2=101, 101+10=111, 111+10=121...989+10=999, 999+2=1001

1001+110=1111, 1111+110=1221...9999+2=10001, 10001+100=10101, etc. etc.

What is really fun is playing around with cryptography, then on about the 9th message, throw in 10% random digits.

Let them be tortured for a while, change the key/seed and continue on with 50 more waiting for them to give you the (what should be obvious key), and they will fuss with that 9th message for MONTHS! (I have seen it!)
