I read the headline and the first part of the story and from the tone thought "Wow!  These guys must have a bunch of AK's and Uzi's stashed under their table".

Cache of illegal weapons seized from vendor at comic book convention

Canadian Press
August 29, 2004

TORONTO -- Nine different types of illegal weapons were seized and six people arrested after police raided a sales booth at the Canadian Comic Expo in downtown Toronto Saturday.

Plainclothes Toronto Police officers purchased a number of the banned weapons from a vendor at the expo after someone raised safety concerns about the merchandise.

''We're talking a truckload worth (of weapons),'' said Sgt. Richard Murdoch.

''They're targeting younger people - teenager males - they're the ones that are going to buy this stuff, take it to school and get suspended. That's what we're worried about.''

Police were baffled at how the weapons, produced mostly in the U.S., managed to get through the American border.

Among the weapons were items such as brass knuckles and swords, Murdoch said.

All of the people working at the booth were arrested and the booth was shut down.

Sean Martinez, 29 and Ling Martinez, 33, both of Missouri, Jarrod Martinez, 26, of Arizona and Abraham Martinez, 29, of New Mexico were all placed in a Toronto jail to await a bail hearing on Monday.

Toronto residents Alexander Petkovski, 28, and Andre Mansour, 30, were also arrested but released on a promise to appear in court on Monday.

All six faces numerous weapons possession charges
