Me thinks this is a spoof.

PETI = petty (and I DON'T mean "Richard")

Yes, and some of them ACTUALLY spend it supporting groups like PETA.

I really prefer those who spend their time poking fun at these groups.  PETA supporters and other tree-huggers seem so...humorless.

From this page on the site http://www.wheelerfamily.com/todd/movies.html:
Here is a list of movies that should be boycotted by all loyal and sane PETI members, due to their insensitive content toward insects:
Arachnaphobia:
This movie is all about huge, vicious spiders killing people. Does this seem like a tolerant portrayal to you? Not only is this movie morally wrong, but it is scientifically inaccurate. Spiders have never swarmed and attacked people in that fashion.

Not that anyone's ever survived to tell about, anyway. . . .[x][x][x][x][x]

This spoof isn't too far from the truth.  A few years ago here in Utah some enviro-whackos were making noise about the planting of trout into certain waters in the Uinta Mountains.  Their main objection was that the fish were eating the mosquitoes.  They claimed that the mosquitoes are native to the area and the fish were not. I know I have never been disappointed in my many expeditions into those mountains from a lack of mosquitoes.  Rare they are not.  Freaking nuts!!!
