Putting it on the calendar.  We're switching schedules at work, so I'll let you know if I can make it.  Staff or otherwise, I'm fine.

Let me know how much more shit is going to be held at my house, too.

So many Barrett’s with no optics, but why?

Also interested in the event. Seems pretty awesome.

Looks like a really fun event.

Also, damn does Montana looks awesome. I am jealous. Probably not so much in the middle of winter, but still.

Standing by for details. The dates are highly realistic for me this year.

If I wanted...like REALLY wanted to screw with people. I'd run my event in the spring. So that, you know, if a guy wants to prepare? He has to do it over the winter.

So congrats on that, I guess.

One should always be prepared to march 12 miles with a ruck, navigate 6 miles over varied terrain, perform an evac, set up an ambush and engage targets at unknown distance over a 36 hour time frame.

I'd rather be cold than hot. Cold you can dress for. Hot you just suffer. And maybe die.

I mean, the first one was in October over Halloween weekend. The first day during setup had a dusting of snow, but had melted off during the actual event.

The rain last year was bad enough to cause some pretty serious water entry into my scope.

Could one be physically prepared for ruck and such but show up mostly to start learning the other skills?

Looks fun.
Any special prep needed, or just come as you are?

Maybe? but you'll be better off if you know the basics.

Land Nav is a monster at his pony farm, but we put on a land nav course every year in April in Colorado to teach folks the basics.  Highly recommend attending because you can fail during the day when people around can help out.

Land nav starts at 0200 during Warfighter. Yes. 2 in the morning.  You have to find a bunch of points all over the property and there are ravines, wild ponies and various other critters all over the place.

As for the shooting portion taking a weekend appleseed course will put you well on your way.

You'll also want to know... a lot of knots. Particularly the swiss seat.

There's a minimum gear list that goes out before the event.

You'll need to bring everything you plan on using. Water and food included.

Also any items you plan on using DURING the event must be carried during your ruck.

I'd show up with at least a basic awareness of what land nav is about and how to go about it or that's going to be a long, frustrating experience.

Should I bring my rappelling harness or is that cheating? (I normally have it in my mission pack)

This is an APC event right? Do I need to be an APC member? I don't think there is APC in KY.

Common misconception. You don't join APC. There are not actual "members" beyond the staff and board of directors.

You simply participate and adhere to our guidelines while participating at APC events. That is it. Pursuing an APC rating doesn't require a membership, rather it is like getting a qualification through a vocational school that you did night classes at for years without ever being a full-time student.

Also KY is a pretty big state.

If you put up a hike thread in Hometown you could probably get a couple guys to join you.

I have a group that I larp around with - that's why I have a harness in my rappelling kit. I've been off quite a few cliffs in the Gorge.

The idea of hitting up hometown is a good one - I'll be sure to do that when I get some time.

One last question - are there any places for families to go during the event nearby? Id like to bring my wife and kids and make a vacation out of it.

Finally! I’m like 99% sure that I don’t have anything booked that weekend.

Gimme a bit to verify, but I should be in!

ETA:

Just a short 10 hour drive each way
