Vast difference between a man like SGM Waugh and those recent dudes who did a couple tours overseas then started doing book tours.

And what is the deal with retiring from SF and going to work in the postal service?  I had an uncle retire as a SGM from 5th SF and he went to work in a small post office in a very rural area of Arkansas.  It always cracked me up thinking none of his coworkers probably knew what kind of past he had pulling 3.5 tours in Vietnam.

I've heard there used to be entrance exams to work for the post office, and they were only held a couple of times per year, potentially limiting applicants. However, retired military were allowed to take the exams at any time of the year.

This was how an old GS civilian explained it to me in the early 2000s when I first enlisted. Back in the day, it probably was an easy way for vets to snag a follow on career with the government. I don't think there is any such exam anymore, though.
