I turned 17 that year and the only handgun I had any familiarity with was the M1911A I carried at basic training that summer.

Walther PPKs. It's about the same size as my current EDC, and they were available back then.

It WAS a Browning HP MKII. But it wasn't carried daily, because I was in the Navy, and you couldn't bring arms on base. I carried it when I travelled.

I was 15 but my first centerfire handgun purchased when I turned 21 was a P228. So I guess that.

Same thing I was carrying up till three years ago: Browning HiPower.

Remember the 9 sucked then (it sucks slightly less now) and .40 wasn't invented then. 1911s of the time could only feed ball reliably, plus I don't like them anyway. P220 with flying ash trays please... |
