Best movie or even best movie scene?
Let’s hear ‘em! |
Top Gun Maverick maybe?
Raiders of the lost Ark Lord of the Rings |
The opening of Saving Private Ryan would probably be pretty intense on a serious surround sound rig.
Terminator 2
Jurassic Park Ford v Ferrari Saving Private Ryan Good ones to start at |
Dune, all of it
War of the worlds, machine rising Edge of tomorrow opening Super 8 train crash |
King Kong -- the base effects during the big Kong verse lizard fight can shift the foundation
War of the Worlds -- the base effects of the monster's machines breaking out of the city and some of their attacks is very impressive. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon -- has some wonderful 3-D audio effects if you have the full ceiling array. There's a memorable fight scene in a bamboo forest with whistling arrows that is especially well done. |

There are several lists out there already.
Do you have Dolby Atmos enabled equipment? Ford vs. Ferrari Mad Max: Fury Road John Wick https://www.enclaveaudio.com/blogs/news/best-movies-to-test-surround-sound |
U571 depth charge scene is intense with good surround sound.
The movies listed are good. So I'm going to recommend a song.
Storming New Caprica (Live) |
I'd say a good war movie would do it - like "Saving Private Ryan" or "Fury" ... but a good combat submarine movie is even better because sounds are amplified and intensified - like "U571", or "Crimson Tide" or "The Boat"
Oh - one more: "War Horse" |
Saving Private Ryan beach battle scene at the beginning. I still remember seeing it in the theater and the surround sound was incredible.
Master and Commander. See if you can hear the cannon balls flying before they show them on screen.
Too many to list, some of my gotos:
The Matrix Children of Men The Mummy Dunkirk |
Quoted: Saving Private Ryan the beach scene. View Quote This and only this. Whenever we complete a media room install, the first calibration movie is Saving Private Ryan's beach scene. When we turn the system over to the owner, we replay that scene for the demo. If you're not feeling it in your chest, you're wrong. Owner's always have a shit eating grin when it's playing. |
Best scene to show off the sound system is in predator when they do the mini gun jungle mag dump trying to hit predator. Crank it up and enjoy

Quoted: Heat. Specifically, the big shootout in the city. View Quote Quoted: Heat bank shoot out View Quote Could be my system but it wasn’t as impressive as I was expecting. Other movies, mostly newer ones, sound much better. |

Only one I care much about is Captain Phillips. |

In terms of actually having a crazy level of sound engineering, the new Bladerunner utilizes Atmos far more than most anything else.
Dune is a solid choice too. You just want to blow someone's eardrums; sure, any of the above listed movies. But realistically most movies barely take advantage of the high end codecs and features out there nowadays (because so few people have systems capable of really showing it off). You're lucky to get more than a scene or two of 3d audio in most flicks. Honestly the (free) atmos demos blow most people's minds if your system is well set up. |
Anything with the MGM lion roar will chase the dog out of the room if I crank it up.
