This is how this shit starts.
If they get this on the ballot, we will have a tough time defeating it. Or maybe Michigan republicans will try to preempt it by passing their own anti gun owner bills. Michigan firearm reform group eyes 2024 initiative if laws not changed https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2022/02/14/michigan-firearm-reform-group-eyes-2024-initiative-if-laws-not-changed/6783372001/ A group of Michigan advocates seeking to curb gun violence launched an "exploratory committee" Monday to consider a 2024 ballot initiative that would impose firearm restrictions in Michigan. End Gun Violence Michigan urged the GOP-led Michigan Legislature to pass meaningful gun reform in the coming months or face a possible petition initiative that would go around them. The group launched its efforts on the fourth anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida. "We can do this; we can pass common sense gun reform that protects our communities and honors responsible gun owners," said Bonnie Perry, bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan. The groups listed on the steering committed for End Gun Violence Michigan include the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit & Vicinity, March for our Lives - Michigan, Michigan Unites, Oakland Forward and Interfaith Action of Southwest Michigan. The group said it will advocate for policies such as safe gun storage laws, universal background checks, red flag laws for domestic violence or high risk cases and bills preventing the carry of guns in the Capitol. Several of those measures have been introduced by Democratic lawmakers during session, but the GOP-led Legislature has largely ignored calls for committee hearings on the issues. Short of legislative action, the group will begin evaluating a ballot initiative by holding community listening meetings, researching the most effective gun measures and raising resources. Democrats are expected to push for a hearing on the safe storage bills in a press conference Tuesday with Attorney General Dana Nessel and Reina St. Juliana, whose sister, Hana St. Juliana, was killed in the Oxford shooting. Gun rights groups have criticized Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, for reportedly promising Senate Democrats a Senate committee hearing on red flag legislation this session. House Speaker Jason Wentworth, R-Farwell, last month launched a bipartisan school safety task force that will focus on ways to improve security and mental health access at schools, but the group is not expected to dive into any sort of gun reform debate. "I'm sure it will come up, but just looking at history and knowing where our personal beliefs are, I'm not really optimistic we'll come up with substantive gun legislation," Rep. Scott VanSingel, a Grant Republican who is a member of the committee, said last month. "It has to be something that will pass through the Legislature." |

How is this group different than the hundreds of other groups that have tried?

Should start a counter group to outlaw abortion. If the legislature won't pass it then it's time for a ballot initiative.

Citizens action got standards for the care of hogs in the Florida Constitution.
The action group could not get a law passed so went the constitution route as it was easier. Yes, it happened. |

I see a lot of religious organizations there. Maybe a ballot initiative to strip there tax exempt status since they are political now?

So why not start some counter-initiatives to loosen gun laws and strengthen gun rights? Two can play that game.

Though i support open carrying
This is what you get when you OC in the capital about a non gun issue... Maybe do that shit when we have an R governor not the commie we have now |

What kind of bullshit is this? We live in a representative republic not a mobocracy

If we had a SCOTUS worth a shit these ballot measures would be shot down as unconstitutional.

Why don't they focus on the source of the crime, inner city welfare drones - they can start in Detroit and Flint.

Maybe they need to see a 10 million armed person March to change their wicked ways.

So what, in their mind, is meaningful gun reform? What does that entail, specifically? And by specifically, I don't mean "we need to keep guns out of the hands of criminals" type of bullshit. It's already illegal for a felon to own or posses a firearm. But that doesn't stop them from obtaining them. So that's not specific because it's already a law that hardly gets enforced, anyway.
There are so many cities and states with so many gun laws that it's actually laughable. The problem is, there's these things called criminals. And these criminals don't really follow the law. So by passing very restrictive gun laws, all they're doing is hurting the law-abiding people who choose to exercise their GOD GIVEN 2nd Amendment rights as spelled out in The Constitution of The United States of America. I fear this country is, indeed, headed towards another Civil War. But I feel that it will start locally and spill over nationally. It will start with some city government trying to overstep their bounds and the people will retaliate in kind. Then, the city will call in the state for assistance. Then more people will get involved from other cities and other counties. Then, another state will get involved to help THAT state, then more people from the 2nd state will get involved, and so on and so forth. Until we finally have our Potato-in-charge call in a nuclear air strike with an F-15; while he hides and plays patty-cake with Nancy's tits. |

California has all that bullshit. Criminals are still killing people. It just makes firearm ownership harder for law abiding citizens, but thats the purpose anyway. Tell people. Don't be like California!

They don't want to curb gun violence, they want to stop peaceful gatherings of lawful open carrying of firearms in public that harms no one except their egos.

I’d get serious about a move to a free state if that gets more than a whiff.

They had some of the members of the group on the news this morning.
Of course, they spouted nothing but lies as expected. “There is something wrong with our gun laws when a 17 year can walk into a gun store, point to a gun, and have it a couple days later” Referring to the Oxford shooting case. |

WE DEMAND LESS RIGHTS!!
Makes sense coming from the group who's major aim is the destruction of the republic. |
