It's snow season, with the chance of power outages and being unable to get to a store.

It's SHTF season where the world could end and you only have the food available at your house.

How much food do you have on hand at your house?

How long could you last with what food you have on hand at your house?

[#1]
3 months if I didn't ration it.

[#2]
probably got at least nine months or a little more without rationing and easily a year with minor rationing

[#3]
If it was just me probably 6 months +

After a month though things would start to suck, and after 3 months I'd be in survival mode

Do we get to eat the neighbors?

A month.  Maybe 2.

I actually need to clean out some old stuff in the freezer.

Strictly with what's in my house, 3 months or so. Full access to my property, indefinitely.
Link Posted: 1/24/2022 8:28:53 PM EDT
[#11]
Not as long as my neighbor’s two miniature poodles
Link Posted: 1/24/2022 8:29:04 PM EDT

6 months easily, and that would be eating good. Not counting dried beans and rice and stuff like that.
Link Posted: 1/24/2022 8:29:16 PM EDT
[#13]
I’d be out shooting squirrels and rabbits in my yard

I'd probably be alright- but my wife complaining and my kids eating all the good stuff the first week?

I'm raiding neighbors for snacks within the month.

Long enough to find someone else’s stockpile.

I'm single and I have three freezers full of food.
I voted 3 months but could probably make it last longer.

I said two days on the food we have on hand however could make at least another two months on my fat reserves.

Quite some time.  Was sad to see how soon some people were panicking when we lost power for about 36hrs over the holidays.

Probably between 3 to 6 months

6 months or more if just the wife and I. If the daughter and grand kids showed up considerably less.

About 2 months. 3 people 1 dag.

If I knew there was no more coming in, we (3) could hold out for over six months. There would be a lot of pasta, beans and rice as filler, but the freezer and pantry are full. Burger, steak, roasts, hams, chicken and fish. And bacon, lots of bacon.

Oh, 4 goats on the hoof and a dozen or so chickens. The hardest part would be feeding the 2 dogs.

87 days.

With city water and some power

A month at very reduced rations

If I started rationing, probably a month or so.  That’s assuming I can keep frozen food frozen by putting it outside when the power goes out.

Probably about a year if it's just me.  My mother was big on being prepared and she had food for the whole family.  About three months if I'm feeding my family (sibs and their kids).

What time is it right now?

I have four kids and only one freezer. I clicked three months. Anything past six weeks or so would involve some not so tasty beans and rice. I've only got about 30lb of bacon, I need more freezer space. I should have a 100lb+ of beef coming in two months, the freezer is going to be pretty tight when it shows up.

I'd like to have a years worth of calories.

The neighbors would notice.

Eating somewhat normally? Less than two weeks. Starving and stretching it? A while, I suppose.
Link Posted: 1/24/2022 8:44:17 PM EDT
[#42]
I could last for well over a year. If you add in the wife and kids it drops considerably. I would say six months for the family, but I think it could be longer with rationing.

Just like stacking ammo in the salad days, 50 lb bags of rice and mylar bags are still cheap right now.  Despite what has happened to ammo and the current state of affairs, most still won't bother.

I have about 150lbs of beef and pork in the freezer, an unlimited supply of eggs from the chickens in the back, and I regularly have all sorts of critters cruising through the yard.

Between that and the bit of stuff I have stockpiled, I'm good for awhile.
