While most of their population lives in the large eastern cities and are liberal, there are a fair number who don't and prefer to be left along. I worked over there for a couple of years and emailing with two of them, it's obvious they hate what it going on but it's also obvious that they think everything they say is being monitored (they're most likely correct, their government openly talks about censoring people's social media) and that they are worried that speaking up will cause bad things to happen to them and possibly their families. I don't ask what's going on and they don't say- just that things aren't good. One of the main lessons folks should take from this is that communications are key- almost all means are compromised and monitored. If you can't organize you're just committing suicide.
