It reads:
“1) Site Updates and Tools. (User + Mod powers) We are toying with the ability for authors to have more control with their threads, including the ability to lock their own posts and kick people from them. (If abused, some of these options will go away.) We are also looking to improve the mod tools to make it easier for them to moderate and avoid locking threads.” Locking your own thread seems okay, and it could help cut down on obvious dupes. However, kicking other members would create hugbox echo chambers, such as when someone posts a thread filled with Qbert nonsense, Jack Posobiec, et cetera. |

Marching in lockstep into an echo chamber.
100% chance it will be abused. It will be used in a coordinated effort to target members and manipulate responses. |
I think the ability to lock a thread is a good idea...booting people? Not so much.
Virtually all media and social media is leftist propaganda. If this place were to become an "echo chamber" it's not like people wouldn't still hear the opposing view literally everywhere else.
That is the absolute last thing this place needs.
This is a forum for discussion not a fucking chat group. It should be a bare knuckled brawl of ideas here not an over moderated gun-Instagram wannabe site. Do not FO. |
Like this place didn't have enough little basement Napoleon's to begin with...
Lol, I should probably ask for a refund on my membership. There won’t be any place for me to post.
Good idea all around. Build back better... We're in this together...
I think it'll be abused. BUT I also think there will be more people who use it responsibly.
(For instance, posting something, finding out it's a dupe, and then locking your own dupe.) |
This should be fun. I welcome the changes and give applause to the mods and admin of this site.

Quoted: Whats wrong with Jack Posobiec???? View Quote He spouts off damaging lies. During the Rittenhouse trial, he said a US Marshal told him the jury would be voting guilty to avoid riots. He said something to the effect that he had tens of thousands of Biden emails, and never mentioned it again. He’s mentioned that he has explosive new information on his podcasts, but only delivered a hot take. |
I got to admit though it would be nice to see the share_blue trolls locked out of threads they are trying to fuck up. That way people could actually have a rational discussion.
I'd like to see us be able to take a vote and kick the OP out of their own threads.
Would be kinda fun I think. |
I don't think any of the upcoming changes ever come.
This site doesn't exactly have a good track record of deploying the changes they promise. |
Now that the gray bars have become no bars, threads are a lot cleaner.
Locking your own thread seems like a worthwhile idea, though. |
The 4chan types would just coordinate offsite to lock out whoever they hate this week from ALL threads.
I think some may abuse the fuck out of it. Keep in mind though it can be removed faster than its installed.

As if having 20+ people “moderating” GD weren’t bad enough, now we’re going to have a half a million little micro-moderators.
Charming. Simply fuckin’ charming. |
Discussion site discourages callout threads.
Discussion site allows members to limit discussion based on personality conflicts or feelz, potentially turning any thread into a callout thread because everybody will know when somebody is excluded. Excluded members will then start their own thread to discuss the same topic, but exclude the other member with a similar thread. Similar to having two threads to discuss all matters covid, some things should go in the bad idea pile. |

Would give you the ability to kick all the 13’ers and 22’ers from the get go; wonder if there would be an auto kick function?

Something, something, Law of Unintended Consequences, something, something

I could see allowing members to lock or delete their own threads. As far as banning people from your threads, why are you posting things on a public forum if you don't like dissenting opinions? The issue gets back to how and when people should be locked or banned.
Having the ability to lock makes sense, providing the reason is legit. Kicking people from threads will definitely be abused by some. Some people just can't stand to be disagreed with.
Locking your own thread seems helpful. Yes, it will be used by many to shut down shit storms.
I could see having some way to delete another member's post if it's nothing but hurling insults or something, but how in the heck would you keep someone from just deleting a member's post that disagrees with you? The only thing I could see is that any member on your "Ignore" list would automatically be locked out through no requirement for you to do anything extra. |
If people are scared of the dreaded "echo chamber" they can always turn on CNN. Or visit Twitter. Or attend a university. Or watch a movie. Or work for a major corporation. Or attend public school. Or visit 99% of the other sites on the web. You know, the REAL echo chamber.
