We don’t support Pakistan. In fact, quite the opposite. The only real way we cooperate with Pakistan is on CT, and even that is minimal. We don’t sell them military arms.

Certainly not stealth enough!  Did they ever use them in Syria, or would this be the first time they’ve been used in anger where western ELINT can watch?

As incompetent as the Russians have made themselves look, someone there has to realize every interesting bit of hardware they lose on Ukrainian soil is being made available to Uncle Sam.

A downed Su-57 would be stateside as soon as .mil cool kids could truck it out of there.

They were used in Syria. They shared airspace with F-22s and USMC F-35s.

Neither side says much about what happened there. I've heard rumors of wacky things. What we do know is that India dramatically pulled out of funding Su-57 development at that time.

Interesting and thoroughly (as possible) researched article on the Rosgvardia unit that penetrated to Kyiv in the early hours and were wiped out.  Article states that 77 out of 80 men were killed.  Interestingly, the unit (or rather, the aftermath of the unit’s destruction) was involved in two videos which you may be familiar with - the Siberian “town hall” meeting where the mayor tries to deflect citizen outrage over the deaths of their relatives, and the well-known prisoner interview early in the war of one of the unit’s survivors.
https://youtu.be/nAvV8jSEpVs
https://www.sibreal.org/a/31737870.html

Article also contains several interesting details I hadn’t heard before about the opening hours and days of the invasion.  (Commander of the Georgian Legion claims he ran over several VDV troopers with his car after he ran out of ammo!)  Article also confirms what we generally understand about the invasion.  The troops had no idea what was going on until they were over the border, though commanders probably knew a week earlier.  There was little if any actual training for what they needed to do.  There was no real plan beyond the broadest and most optimistic outline, which almost immediately went into the shitter when intense resistance developed.

LONDON, May 20 (Reuters) - In a sign of Russia's urgent need to bolster its war effort in Ukraine, parliament said on Friday it would consider a bill to allow Russians over 40 and foreigners over 30 to sign up for the military.

The website of the State Duma, parliament's lower house, said the move would enable the military to utilise the skills of older professionals.

"For the use of high-precision weapons, the operation of weapons and military equipment, highly professional specialists are needed. Experience shows that they become such by the age of 4045," it said.

Currently, only Russians aged 18-40 and foreigners aged 18-30 can enter into a first contract with the military.

Russia has suffered huge setbacks and heavy losses of men and equipment in the 86-day-old war, in which Ukraine has mobilised practically its entire adult male population. Despite taking full control of the ruins of Mariupol, Moscow remains far from its objective of seizing all of the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

"Clearly, the Russians are in trouble. This is the latest attempt to address manpower shortages without alarming their own population. But it is growing increasingly difficult for the Kremlin to disguise their failures in Ukraine," said retired U.S. General Ben Hodges, a former commander of U.S. Army forces in Europe.

Jack Watling, a land warfare specialist at the British security and defence think tank RUSI, said the Russian military was running short of infantry.

"Russia needs to stabilise manning in its military units in Ukraine and generate new units if it is to improve its position on the ground," he said.

"This will be a slow and complicated process, but can be accelerated by mobilising people with existing skills and military experience."

The Duma said the proposed legislation would also make it easier to recruit civilian medics, engineers and operations and communications specialists.

Separately, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday that Russia was forming 12 military units in its western military district in response to rising threats there, citing NATO membership bids by Finland and Sweden.

lol, the Russians say lots of things, I'm waiting for their paper su-57's to show up and do something.   It has to be very demoralizing though when Russian units are seeing that Ukrainian air support is still intact.  Very much a morale boost for the Ukrainians.

Speculation is that Ukrainian police uncovered a "stay behind" cache prepared by UkrSF.  Interesting factoid - the Chinese AKs in the cache were originally sold to Iran, which gave them to Houthis - but US has intercepted the shipment at sea. And now they are in Ukraine.

WHO IS RUSSIA''S NEW SUPER ENEMY | And How The Hell That Happened?

This is a russian youtube guy I've started following. He is basically what I thought most russians are actually like, up until recently when russians convinced me I was way,way too hopeful. He is as honest as he can be about current events. He is not above saying "I'm sure you can read between the lines." As he is in russia he gets a lot of info I don't know anything about. He says he is sick over the russian invasion and has been sick since day one. He has Ukrainian friends.

Better than s-400.

It can have 3 types of missiles for various anti air and anti ballistic missile work.  Under the hood not the same system as Gulf War 1.

https://www.raytheonmissilesanddefense.com/what-we-do/counter-uas/sensors/global-patriot-solutions

Patriot has been used by five nations in more than 250 combat engagements against manned and unmanned aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles. Since January of 2015, Patriot has intercepted more than 150 ballistic missiles in combat operations around the world; more than 90 of those intercepts involved the low-cost Raytheon Missiles & Defense-made Guidance Enhanced Missile family of surface-to-air missiles.

Those engagements were possible because Patriot is built on a foundation of more than 3,000 ground tests and over 1,400 flight tests.

Each and every time Patriot is tested or live fired, engineers uncover new ways to further improve or enhance the system. The improvements are necessary because the threat is constantly changing and becoming more sophisticated.

I wish they could get them, but I'm skeptical about Ukraine getting these.

Russians make small changes and change the name for marketing. “Da! Su-35 is all new world beater! Only slightly resemble older aircraft on outside!”

The US be like “The new buy of Patriot missiles and the Super hornet are evolutionary, Congressman, and don’t need the sort of oversight that a new program would require, or a recompetition of the program.”

I see you have been involved at some level in the current US Weapons Procurement process as well!  It is somewhat surprising and humbling when you look at the control stations or open the maintenance panels on a new version of a weapons system system on which you had previously been an SME and realize you are absolutely ignorant regarding how to operate or maintain the "upgraded" version.
