This time, it seems to me that the arty supporting the Russians in Bakhmut is getting fucking worked.  Could be a couple of factors.  There has been a significant uptick in drone claims.  If there is a new system in place jamming or destroying Russian observation drones - for example the 70mm PGM kit - Ukrainian artillery can work unsuppressed.  There was also the specific claim that the UA is now jamming Lancet, allowing the UA artillery to work unsuppressed.
Another possibility is an unknown drone system more resistant to Russian jamming, which allows for better spotting of Russian artillery.

I went back and looked at the numbers for the past 7 days and Ukraine has destroyed 76 artillery pieces and 9 MLRS.

As highly dependent as the RuAF is on officers, these losses have to be making an impact on comms, command and maneuver.

Reading the law itself, the country can be in invaded and all the various courts and various governments have condemned it.

Still doesn't violate their neutrality is all what they are trying to do.

Kind of surprised this is on The Atlantic but good article:
America’s Unconvincing Reasons for Denying F-16s to Ukraine

Excerpt…
On the question of whether the West will provide F-16s—a capable but relatively simple, lightweight fighter aircraft widely used by NATO members—the discussion is stuck somewhere between Stages 1 and 2. Ukraine clearly needs improved air-defense capabilities and so is constantly pleading for F-16s. The U.S. is rejecting these appeals primarily with technical and logistical arguments. Colin Kahl, the undersecretary of defense for policy, has repeatedly claimed in recent weeks that Ukraine would need 28 months to be able to deploy and operate F16s.

Exactly. They could have sat on their hands pleading neutrality. But they have worked to provide very specific allowances within that policy. Nice step.

⚡️ NIGHT ATTACK OF "SHAHEDIV": 17 IMPACT DRONES DESTROYED
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
At midnight on May 13, 2023, the enemy attacked Ukraine from the northern and southern directions with Iranian-made "Shahed-136/131" UAVs.

A total of 21 launches were recorded. 17 barrage munitions were destroyed in various directions using anti-aircraft missile weapons, fighter jets, and mobile fire groups.

Unfortunately, there are enemy drones hitting infrastructure facilities in Khmelnytskyi. Local authorities and services are working to eliminate the consequences.

In addition, the Orlan-10 operational-tactical UAV was destroyed at night.

During the past day, on May 12, air defense units destroyed four Lancet-type attack UAVs. Tactical aviation of the Air Force carried out dozens of sorties to attack the enemy by fire and fighter air cover.

While Russia has pushed some research into new weapons they never produced much modern equipment in large quantities. Instead they have relied on the vast stores of Soviet era arms. And many of those are the oldest T54/55 (only 300-500) so likely that the majority of the storage T72 tanks are trash.

So, no there is no vast army waiting in the wings. What is in the field is it. They have used up trainers from Army and Air Force in battle so they are short of trainers, pilots, and trained troops. The navy is notorious for poor maintenance. Their biggest aircraft carrier has been in dry dock for five years. Father Time is no longer the friend of Russia.

Some of these guys really do still believe that Russia has hundreds of divisions just waiting to come in and save the day. They just can't accept that the mighty Red Army had been reduced to a pair of clown shoes who can't handle a single third world country they share thousands of miles of border with.

The reality is here for all to see, the Russians are best visualized as 8 thugs in track suits riding around in a Scooby Doo van.

Theoretically, with a wartime mobilization on the levels of the "Great Patriotic War", nearly all those tanks could be regenerated.  However, it would be an undertaking requiring years, if not a decade, and the result would be a bunch of inferior tanks with early 1980's tech and a civilian economy dedicated to building inferior weapons, and a civilian/consumer economy somewhere between that of Cuba and North Korea.  Russia has tons of resources and raw materials; however, does not have sustainable tech, manufacturing, or demographics to support a large modern force.  Russia can achieve "world power" status again, or it can restore it's current military.  I cannot do both at this time.  Once the Soviet-era stockpiles are harvested of all easily-rebuildable equipment, the fun for Russia really begins.

If it was BOTH, that indicates lack of maintenance/spare parts is really reaching critical levels, or the Ukrainians have moved a Patriot battery to somewhere within the vicinity. Even in Russia, it is a bit unusual for multiple aircraft to start falling from the sky at the same time.

Not quite sure what you're getting at.  If the Ukrainians promised not to use them outside the 1991 borders of Ukraine, i'm sure they'll honor that promise because it would endanger aid not to.

The info learned is valuable. All they have to spare is an older Patriot system and no American lives to see a real Russian response. The Russians may have known this info for years and we got to see them react without personal consequence.
