Parachute saved him. If that chute didn't pop when it did he would have been a goner.

The end result was much better than I thought it was going to be.

It is jawdropping how much power drag cars make these days.
Small tire car too. At least he is ok and will be able to salvage a bunch of parts, that is one seriously, probably irreprably bent racecar. |

great example for all of the people who think that the eighth and quarter aren't enough

Is that chute deployed automatically when the car reaches a certain angle or was he just that fast? I assume the button is on the wheel.

I use to live near Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, In. Used to see some crazy shit during the Summer Nationals.

Car has the rough shape of an airplane wing. He achieved liftoff.

View Quote Technology in these cars is advancing so fast I can't say for sure if they have anything like an auto deploy or not. I know they usually have a large lever to the right of their head and any time there is an "oh shit" moment they can throw it pretty easy. If I took a guess he pulled that chute as soon as he knew he was in trouble. |

Quoted: "Car doesn't 60' worth a shit" "Well, maybe if you kept the front tires on the ground..." View Quote There are a lot of things going on right now with this class that couldn't have been imagined a few years ago. A procharged combo just went 3.507 at over 210 mph in testing and claim they weren't really getting after it. They went 3.57 the hit before and knocked off .07 easily the next pass. No wheelie bars, 315/60/15 drag radials, over 200 mph and now in the 3.5x range with 3.4x a very real possibility this weekend. Crazy times. It's a golden era for drag racing so we should all enjoy it while it's here. |
|
Heck even pro275 on a 275/50/15 drag radial is going 3.6x's now !!!

Their is an old saying about keeping the tires on the ground...

Need the Garlits blowover. He went straight up pivoted and came down pointing back down the track he just came down. 280" wheelbase dragster pointing straight up and turning around.

Quoted: Unfortunately he crossed the stripe in the air so he didn't trigger the clock. I bet it was still in the 4's. I think he has gone 3.60 a procharged car just went 3.507 at over 210 mph in testing. Remember this is on a 315/60/15 drag radial as well. View Quote |

That was crazy and the driver stuck that landing. An interview was probably done that would be interesting.

Not a total loss, he can log the flight time as PIC but he does need to clean up the takeoffs and landings...

Quoted: Small budget? Those are 200k cars before the 100k engine is put in. View Quote Yes it's incredible how fast they run regardless of budget. For sure a $300,000 car with a pulling rig and spare parts to keep it going is a lot of money, but in terms of racing these are lower budget teams compared to pro stock, top fuel, etc. Heck the TV show guys have almost the budget of these guys. This was a steel body car and they think they can get it fixed in time to finish this weekends event. |

First rule of being a pilot, keep your takeoffs and landings an equal number.
