It will eat Hemis for lunch. It's 632 cubic inches of Big Block Chevy power... |
maybe i dont understand drag racing...
but when i see that frame,,i cant but think what it would look like as a fully restored factory car. then again. that is one big fucking engine. maybe when my balls are still left at the light i can start to understand what people see in making drag cars. |
Look on the dashboard... Gotta pop the wheel off to get in and out of the car... |
is that a parachute on the rear end?
if so... im starting to like it alot! |
There really is very little left of an original Camaro... Rocker panels, roof, and rear body panel are GM steel. Everything else is fiberglass, and round tube... Generally, people don't cut up nice musclecars and make them into race cars. (some do of course)99% of the cars you see go down the track were reconstructed from a $50 junk car. |
That's gotta be a bitch to pack back up at every stoplight. I bet it really backs up traffic and makes a 5 minute drive take an hour. |
Um, yes... That is a 'chute... NHRA requires all drag cars going over 150mph in the 1/4 mile, to be equipped with a SFI approved parachute. My car should go between 185-190mph in the 1/4. |
Yes, they are a pain in the ass to re-pack... The chute comes off for street legal driving. (license plate obstruction) |
Can't believe I'm the first to say it...
Know how many guns you coulda bought for the $$ of that car?? J/K, nice toy I love the 70-72 Camaros. |
No... The question that should be asked is: Do you know how many guns I SOLD to buy that car ? (I gave up a beloved M16, M11/9, and countless semis) |
What everyone really wants to know is, how many MPG you gettin???
No that should read GPM. |
What kind of tranny/differential do you have your machine & gear ratios?
Is that a Holley dual-pumper carb on the manifold? What's the CFM rating? Whats the gas mileage? |
Tranny is a Rossler built Turbo400, rear is a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears. Carb is a Holley HP Dominator and flows over 1300 cfm. Gas mileage is not an issue with a drag car... It will use approx 1 gallon of fuel for each 1/4 mile pass down the track. That includes engine warm-up, burnout, and return trip to the pits... If I was cruising around on the road, it would probably get about 3 mpg. The fuel cell only holds 5 gallons. |
Nice car. I see that you put a heck of a lot of efrort into it. I guess you're not going to be driving it to the corner 7-11 store for a quart of milk very often, at 3-4 MPG and racing fuel at >$6/gal. Its been awhile, the Chevy big block, is this the one with canted valves and was nicknamed the porcupine head? |
I haven't been into cars since the days of Sunoco 260, what type gas do you run in a motor like that?
That would be fun to go and find all the little Fast&Furious fags in their little ricers and just throw down the OWNAGE!!!
Looking good Art! Can I take it for a spin?
Seriously, if/when you decide to take a few trips down the track, I'm available for pit help as needed. I haven't had my burnt rubber/race gas fumes fix in WAY too long! |
That reminds me, Top Fuel Dragsters are comin to Sydney soon!
YAY! |
OmG..thats badd ass..I wonder what the other people think when the see u come up on a red light
Damn! I would hate to be your neighbor. Nice wheels. I use to own a 70 RS. The difference was about 950 hp
How it do in the twisties?
That car is no sleeper. I doubt the fast and furious crew would get within a hundred yards of you on the street. I wouldn't. |
We want pics/video from your first race. I expect some front tires off the ground for at least the first 20 feet or so (just hope not too high).
Red button on top of the shift lever... Rev limiter? Trans brake? Not hooked up? Honestly, if I had a car with such HP I would have to go screw with the ricers. I'd guarantee none of them would wanna get near you, they don't like to be shown up by an "old, heavy" car. Reminds me of the night there was a guy that pulled up where we were hanging out and wanted to race someone... anyone for $500. Another guy pulled up in a '71 Chevy pickup... lowered, street slicks, nicely rumbling Chevy 502 sitting under the hood. The guy offering $500 quickly pussied out. The guy in the truck said he didn't wanna race anyway, just putting a dipshit in his place. |
I guess it feels not quite as fast as a 360 lb GSXR1000 with 180 hp at the rear wheel. Four wheels are just a waste of two extra wheels. |
Nice pic.
And I think its nice they put a body bag on the back end of the car for ya, so the medics won't hafta go back to the wagon to get something to wrap ya in. |
Dang, 190mph in the 1/4, getting pretty close to Pro-Stock numbers ain't ya'. Yank that carb off of there and stick a nice 6-71 blower with a set of Demon carbs. and you'll go alittle faster, of course your fuel mileage will suffer,LOL. Very nice ride, I miss the bad ol' days when everyone had a V8 and paid .50 cents a gallon for premium gas. I has a '73 Buick Century Luxus with a 455c.i. that ran good, my '72 Cutlass had a 350ci Rocket in it and it's was balls to the wall fast too. God, I miss thoses cars. Now I want a Hybird car so bad I can't stand it, 50MPg, you can't beat that with the price of gas today. Oh well, enough rambling on about cars, Race Safe, Race Often, Have fun.
P.S. You do know you'll have to change pistons to a low compression blower piston if you go with a blower set up, right? I'd hate to have you stick a blower on something with 12:1 compression,LOL. |
I cant believe you waited so long to take a spin. What did you change out since you got it ?
1140 HP and the crank can't even spin a water pump or a alternator. Humph!
Seriously DRA, nice machine! |
Take your bike to the track and post your ET here. I bet Art's car is quicker. Apples and Oranges. |
Look closer... There is an alternator mounted low on the pass side. The water pump is electric, and runs with the electric fan. Cooling the motor down takes about 2 minutes after shutting it off... |
Might be taking it to Beaver Springs Dragway on Friday night... Depends what the weather looks like... |
It will easily outrun any street legal bike. No question about it. Like Gus said, it's apples to oranges... It wouldn't even be a fair or close race... |
Nice car.....for a Chevy That's some serious cubic $$$$
I'd have used a Vega as the base car, but that's just me. |
Geez, Art, why the hell would you do a thing like that?
I'm resisting getting back into hotrods as much as I can, and you come along with something like that. Prick. Fucking awesome. I can respect the NASCAR guys and their ability to build an engine that runs between 160-190MPH for hours, but NOTHING beats drag racing for out and out balls-to-the-walls speed. And top fuelies at night IS THE ULTIMATE. I had a rodded up 1969 Chevelle and it was not too shabby for a solid piece of Detroit steel, but it was NOTHING like that. Thanks for the eye candy. |
I basically took apart the whole car, and stripped the motor down to the shortblock. The car had a few years worth of racing on it, and I didn't want to take any chances on broken or worn-out parts... I re-did the heads, and used thinner head gaskets to bump compression up a little. (.062 to .051). I race prepped a Holley carb for it, and did some work to the intake manifold. I installed an alternator, re-did the trunk area, completely re-wired the whole car front to back, hooked up all the lights, installed a brake light switch, installed a passenger seat, relocated the nitrous bottle to the trunk, installed 5" mufflers and pipe, serviced the rearend and put synthetic oil in it, replaced the Goodyear slicks with DOT approved Hoosier tires, replaced the front tires with 1" taller tires, properly mounted the snorkel scoop and airpan, re-routed the shifter cable, installed up to date 5-point restraint system on both sides, re-aligned the doors so they close nice, re-mounted the vacuum pump and realigned the pulleys... Stuff like that... |
Yes indeed!!! Might have to make the trip up to Englishtown..... Friday night is the best! |
Red button on shifter is the line-loc button. The trans-brake button is at the end of the coiled cord hanging on the shifter...The blue button under the shifter was a Nitrous purge button at one time... There is no nitrous on this car at the moment... That may change by mid-Summer... |
Hey Art what class are you running in?? I see no throttle stop, delay box, etc. don't tell me braket racing or S-Pro
Very nice, Im sure it a scary fast ride. Oh and selling your gun WTF shame on you |
