per the urbandictionary.com:

Stems from 80's hacker lingo. When a hacker 'rooted' (got root access to) a 'box' (a computer hooked up to the internet) he would exclaim "woot. (I have root.)" Later use spread to the hacker's lesser brethren, the gamer, and most hackers no longer use the term.


So basically, its too geeky for geeks.....

well, the standard gaming definition of woot is we owned the other team, and some others have different meanings(probably because they are completely clueless as to what the word acronym means). All acronyms should die except for Field Utility Combat Knife.
