I spent the day wandering around at Wright Patterson (technically the official museum of the airforce).
I haven't been there since I was a little kid, back when you had to be bussed from the main museum to some dilapidated hangers on the base. It's way nicer now, and a very fun time. Having said that, there was a huge dose of propaganda ish stuff about women every 100ft or so. I don't have an issue with the relevant stuff like, Jackie Cochran, WACs in WW2, etc. It was randomly grafted onto stuff everywhere, as in here's a C5 Galaxy, we'll throw a display about the first C5 Galaxy all female crew to take an international flight. I'd guess that they literally went through and figured that every X feet they'd add something about women. And since this is a gun board, I am going to make fun of them for the having a sign on a WW1 German plane explaining it was armed with two 9mm Spandau machine guns. |

A good friend of mine, RIP Bob, donated 3 airplanes to the museum. There is a plaque somewhere there in his honor.

It consisted of two independent coupled weapons, each with its own barrel, firing mechanism, and separate 25-round magazine. So they might have been referring to that ... The Spandau was also available in calibers like 13mm |

We went there a few times, not that recently though, maybe 4-5 years ago. Nothing jumped out at me, or was even slightly memorable, as being woke. Cool place, especially the admission price.

The Liberty Bell in Philly is the same. Shit about slavery and contributions of slaves everywhere. Just brutal...

Could be their way of getting more women into the museum, my wife would be bored to death looking at planes

I used to work for a museum (very fortunately now retired!)
They are all woke, now. But it isn't just museums. It's everywhere, especially on tv. Almost half the ads on tv now feature black people. I have nothing against black people! But to watch the ads, you would think the US is 40% black instead of 13%. And I have counted eight ads that show a white male with a black wife, like that is some sort of "thing". I'm pretty sure it's not. (and I do not give a rats ass who marries whom!) |

We visited last year, hell of a museum, don’t recall much wokeness. I could have spent the whole day in the WW2 exhibit. They also had a nice temporary exhibit honoring Military working dogs.
Pre Covid, one could walk through the retired Air Force one and other presidential jets. I think they’ve closed that off for now. |

My last trip to the museum (2018) they were both female then, so it's not like they swapped them out anytime recently. In this case (MM trainer), I think it has more to do with the availability of male mannequins than anything else. The military has been aping corporate culture for decades now. So like modern American corporations, they've strayed from worrying about their primary missions (for instance, making a profit) and have focused on being woke.
And that shit can continue open loop right up to the point were you get into a conflict with a serious adversary. Then we'll see to what extent wokeness has overtaken military effectiveness. |

I didn't even know there was an air force museum. Where are the other branch museums?

Wish I was retired and lived closer so I could volunteer there, I would love that |

Did they take you to the basement to see the Roswell UFO? Must see if you get a chance.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I was surprised to see so many guns on display when I went to the NC museum of history. They even had a whole exhibit for the guy that helped develop the M1 Carbine
Plenty of wokeness in the other parts though |

It’s an amazing museum. We used to go every year before going to the Dayton air show. Haven’t been since they moved the presidential and experimental aircraft to the main building. From what I remember, the air force one on display was the one used to transport JFKs casket. They had to take a sawsall to the inside to make it fit.

If you're south or you've seen Wright-Patt, there are other great museums.
Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB is the Air Force's 2nd largest museum Also, I can highly recommend the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Both of these are free like the museum at Wright Patt and the Smithsonian museums. |
