1959 Pre-production F4H1 Phantom for sale. Only 461 hrs on it. Completely overhauled to zero hours.
Gorgeous. GROUP BUY! |

It seems like a very bad idea to have inert ordnance painted as if it were HE.

I'd imagine you would need a full time A&P with a machne shop to keep that bird in the air.

Purchase price is likely peanuts compared to the hourly cost to operate this thing.

Been for sale for a while I think. Remember seeing it posted on here a year or two ago.

I sat next to the owner of the jet and had a few beers while he told me about it.... this was probably 5 to 7 years ago.
He has a small museum and runs https://wingsandrotorsacademy.com/ |

Same place is apparently selling A-4s for $5m and a XP-82 for $12m. And a Wildcat.

I used to pack the parachutes for those. Whichever of you guys that buys it, let me know when you need repacks.

Only 3.2 Million... I figured it would be more than that. Lighting those after burners would be well worth the price of admission.
I am sure one of you guys will get your supermodel wife to buy it for you. I'll bring beer... |

I've got a fuel control for that J-79. Wonder if they would want to buy it.

If your can't afford to buy it you can't afford to fly it. If I were ever a billionaire I wouldn't be for long.

Man if I had won the lotto this week I’d buy this. It has a amazing story attached to it.

The only current privately owned airworthy Phantom is the one owned by the Collings foundation and they can hardly fly it due to the operating expenses. It'll make an airshow appearance every now and then.
Someone with some major money would be the only one who could afford to buy and maintain that aircraft. |

One of my favorite birds..............
"On 22nd April 1961, it carried a very impressive 22 Mk83 500lb bombs on various hardpoints under the aircraft and dropped them on a range at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This demonstration was the deciding factor for the United States Air Force to also order the aircraft." |

Quoted: Because of the age or that's the nature of all fighter type aircraft? View Quote Every jet turbine powered airplane is like this - even light-duty stuff. Gas turbines are pricey to maintain; nature of the beast. That particular aircraft had an operating cost that was eye-watering to those blessed few who are inured from such trivialities, because they spend the taxpayer's dollars so profligately. Even they were not amused when it came down to paying the freight on the Phantom - although it gave pretty lengthy service until the 1980s, IIRC. I doubt the F-14s and F-15s were a nickle cheaper to operate, but offered much improved capabilities. |

View Quote None of that would be applicable to a civilian trying to maintain one today. Just finding parts and qualified facilities, would be a full time occupation. I’m not saying it couldn’t be done by an Elon or Zuckerberg, but the costs would be nearly incalculable. Closer to $50,000/hour than $10,000. |

Had the FAA hot on his trail for doing Top Gun stuff with it. Think he was killed in it too. |
