The Massachusetts senator says the proposal unveiled Monday would eliminate almost all student loan debt for 42 million Americans, canceling $50,000 in debt for each person with household income under $100,000.

Warren says the debt cancellation proposal would create a one-time cost to the federal government of $640 billion.

Among Warren's other proposals is elimination of tuition and fees for two- and four-year public college degree programs, as well as a $100 billion investment in Pell Grants, a federal aid program that requires no payback.

Whole lot of nope. I want to see leftist fuckheads with their $100,000 underwater basket weaving degrees financially crushed for the rest of their lives as a reminder as to how poor of decisions they make on a daily basis.

The shitty thing is even if it passed, out household income is just a tiny bit too high to qualify, like less than 10%.  So we're fucked paying back everyone else's student debt on top of my wife's .

What the fuck happened to personal accountability?

Entitlements for the poor folks. I loathe liberals.

Except that wipe-out student debt will be replaced with debt from cars, mortgages, personal loans, etc. What's to stop them from going into debt again?

And in a few years there would need to be another plan much like what she is proposing here. It would create a never ending cycle, a money pit for tax payers and a gold mine for "schools".

It would amount to about $6,000 per tax payer.

I would rather build a $640 billion WALL first.

Get the government OUT of student loans and make the colleges loan/finance the students so they have a vested interest in student success.

Everyone in my family went to college on their own dime. We all spent our 20s paying back our student loans by working in the fields our degrees were for.

It honestly wasn't that big of a deal.

Pell grants actually require certain GPA targets to be met in order to qualify.

This other stuff is just pandering.

My wife and I paid for our school and recently got even on student loans.

People should pay what they owe.

Can I also claim interest due back for the income taxes I paid on my scholarships in addition to the $50K?  These politicians have no concept of reality.

I think a more realistic approach would be a government program to allow consolidatation of all existing student loan debts into a 0% loan. Discharging/forgiving the interest of existing loans is a lot more reasonable.

The new consolidated loan would be federal and not dischargable under bankrupcy. Any missed or partial payments incur a %APR penalty on the remaining balance. A long period without missed or partial payments can reduce the %APR penalties back to 0%.

Furthermore, the bill should limit tuition rate increases for any university that acccepts federal subsidies and student grants. The rate of tuition inflation is absurd.

Finally, something should be in there to encourage the use of vocational and trade schools. I’ll bet 75% of the people with degrees don’t actually need them to do their jobs. They would have been money ahead with no loan debt and 6 months of on the job training. Imagine putting all those student loan payments into a 401k that early in your career instead of paying back banks... you’d have $100,000’s more when you retire.

There is no short term consequences for the government to keep running up debt.

And this goes for Trump and Co as well as Dems.

Well, what the fuck we're already 22 or 23 trillion in debt. What's another half trillion added in?
