Ultimate geekness.

It's Japanese cartoons noted for its mature themes: nudity, violence, and lots of robots (in some of them). Characters with big eyes and little slits for mouths.

Japanese cartoons.  I'm sure some geek will be along any minute to give the detailed nitty gritty, but for simpletons like myself, Japanese Cartoons covers it.  Oh yeah, the toons can be porn....

DPeacher:I agree, with that last line, they can be quite graphic, some of them border on porn.

Anime...The japanese word for Animation (modified english word)  Used to describe all animation in the Japanese form.  Some can be extremely graphic and some do include animated porn (not borderline but actual animated porn).  Japanese social more's are different.  Nudity is not considered dirty.  However, body hair can not be shown (even in porn)  Regular broadcast TV (NHK1, NHK2 and whatever Japanese networks that have been added since I was last there) would regularly show nudity, both actual and animated at all hours of the day.  However, issues of playboy sold in Japan had the pubic and armpit regions digitized to a blur.

I remember one kids cartoon that came on every day in the mid afternoon that had a child obsessed with breast feeding.  He would constatntly jump on well stacked women to "suckle" and their tops would fly open.  This was a childrens cartoon.  Different society....

Edited to add...   I am not a geek, nor do I masturbate to cartoons.  (no slurs or comments please)  Just someone that has experience with Japanese culture.

If you want a perfect intro to Anime I strongly suggest checking out Cowboy Bebop.  It's only 26, 1/2 hour episodes.  It covers the range of Anime from silly, funny, amazing action, characters that you really come to care about and some really heart wrenching stuff too.  It's a "best of the best" series.

Another reason to watch Bebop for a starter is that the english dubbing is done VERY well.  Sometimes they change entire dialog sections, and modify the meaning of the story when they dub to english.  There are series that suck when viewed dubed but are great sub-titled.  Often english voice actors don't "match" the characters and that is distracting as hell.

Most Americans exposure to Anime is limited to stuff like Speed Racer and Gundam.  There are much better series out there.

Another favorite of mine is Tenchi Muyo! (the first series, not the second one).  Tenchi is one is better viewed subbed rather than dubbed.

For most people it's either an "I LOVE THIS STUFF" or a "What the hell is this shit?" type of reaction.  One thing to keep in mind is that you can't begin to get a sense of a series with just a few minutes.  You HAVE to watch it for a bit and then the "ahhhhhh!" reaction will come.

Oh, another great one to start out with is the film "Ghost in the Shell".

After Cowboy Bebop, check out Trigun. Guns, humor, action.  Pretty cool.

And Ninja Scroll.

Significant portions of anime are in Post-apocalyptic settings, as the Japanese have this thing about Nukes....wonder why.

I own that one.

If I had Rally's gun collection, I think I'd secure it better.  [:-D]
