I used to do that with those credit card offers all the time. I never wrote anything on them though. I'd just stuff everything in the return envelope and send it back to them. They finally got the message. They quit sending them. Screw a bunch of credit cards. I don't use them.

Then I guess you won't like me as I do not care for unsolicited mail. Be it in my email or my snail mail. Bottom line is: If I didn't ask for it I don't want it. Junk mail only serves to waste paper, fill up my garbage can necessitating more trips to the curb, and to slow down the delivery of regular mail due to the overwhelming volume of junk mail the Post Office must deliver. Trust me, if I want your product I will go out and find you. Unsolicited mail only makes me look elsewhere for the same product. My Xmas eve rant...[:)] |

I send shredded stuff back, carefully screened so as not to allow any personal info go out. Sometimes I'll send rocks, little ones. Depends on what will fit.

Should the company put people out of work?
Yes. First, their employees ought to have a little self respect and get a better job. If that means sacrifice while getting job training, so be it. Second, the management ought to be smart enough to devise a less demeaning product, one that actually makes a positive contribution to the economy and teh society. The best cure for unsolicited mail is not only return the envelopes, but mix the crap from all the junk mail for the day and send some of it to all the advertising vendors. The absolute worst way to sell something to me is to push it with advertising; it's nearly a guarantee that I won't buy the product. |

You're getting exactly what you deserve. This is a cost of doing business. You're failing to target your audience and it's costing you on sending the mail out and it's costing you again when they send it back because you piss them off.
If you're happy about keeping people employed, suck up the complaints and the costs and quit whining. However, you need to accept that the responses you're getting are because people hate you. You are a worthless excuse for a human being and they want to make sure you know that. I hate spammers, telemarketers and direct mail marketers in that order. They are a plague upon society and cause more damage than lawyers. That's how low you are. That said, my job is to support computer systems for a large company that does direct mail marketing. I hate the job, but a job that sucks is better than no job these days. Based on your comment, I can tell that you have a very rudimentary approach to direct mail marketing. You're experiencing the same problems as everyone else. The difference is that you don't appear to know how to handle the issue. I could teach you a great deal about this field if you really want to increase the returns from your marketing expenditures. However, you're not making the world a better place. So if you want my help, I expect to be paid for it. |

Heck I sign up for anything free from gun control outfits and request a copy of all kinds reports. I have mail coming to me from in 10 different names to the same address, and yes I send back all postage paid envelopes.
I just love costing them money. If everybody did we sure could put a hurt on their budgets. |

Unsolicited phone calls Unsolicited solicitors at my door Unsolicited snail mail All four fall into the same category for me: UNSOLICITED BULLSHIT! I’m lucky in that I carefully control my e-mail address and my ISP has excellent spam filters. The amount HAS been increasing in the past couple of months. I have a Tele-Zapper on my line and an unlisted number. I signed up for the DNC list and since that went into effect my phone hardly rings anymore. I have a “No Soliciting” sign next to the doorbell. It works almost 100%. I toss out an UNGODLY amount of junk snail mail every year. I usually let it pile up before it hits the recycle bin. Six months worth fills a box that I can’t lift. I make it a point to NEVER purchase ANYTHING from ANY COMPANY that I don’t already do business with that sends me UNSOLICITED advertising. Direct Marketers and spammers are just above child molesters, used car salesmen and sleazy lawyers in my Pantheon of “people/professions to despise with all my heart”. |

I stuff as much gravel into those envelopes as I can make fit, plus all the stuff they sent me. Plus some stuff from other marketers that DIDN'T send a business reply mail envelope.
Lacking gravel, sand works pretty well too, but doesn't make that satisifying BANG when dropped in the mailbox on the way back to 'em. Which reminds me....I've got some mail to send out after Christmas. [:D] |

I can see both sides of the issue. #1 because I'm a consumer and #2 because I run a business. You say "If I need the product, I'll find you". Well, if there is a lot of competition chances are you won't find me. You gotta sell stuff to put bread on the table, and to sell stuff you gotta get exposure.
By the way Ger42, I hope you're not the one who sends out those letters that say YOU (may have) WON ONE MILLION DOLLARS!! |

Even that takes time because I get a lot of junk mail and it goes in the trash and someone has to haul it away to the land fill. Seems like a waste of time not to mention resources. I guess you're saying we should consider the industry as a kind of welfare employment program. Let's think of something for those people to do that does not involve me. I already have a job. Oh, and I suppose the guy that owns the compnay is doing this out of concern for his fellow man? Probably doesn't even take a pay check. |

Now since you tell me that someone DOES open it and read it, I will go back to sending it back out!!!! Now I know my time is not wasted!!! Thanks for telling me that some SOB really does read it. I can't wait till the mail runs tomorrow. Whoever you work for please send those really big envelopes out, I feel a big turd going back in one. |

I heard about someone taping two washers to a piece of cardboard and mailing those back in the envelopes.
He claimed it set off their alarm systems due to the metal and and the stiffness of the envelope. I'd personally worry about legal problems for doing that, but the idea of shutting down a direct marketer's mail room DOES make me smile. [:)] [b]Ger42[/b], you're NOT going to get sympathy here. All annoyances aside, you're wasting paper and resources. At the VERY least, all of your mail should be charged the standard first class rate-- no bulk rate discounts. Oh, and here's raising some empty prepaid envelopes to be mailed back to direct mailers! |
