I am looking at improving my long range (300-600+ meters) shooting skills, and to have fun doing it.  Which is a better platform for this:

AR service match rifle
or
Heavy barreled 308 (700P/70Stealth/FNSPR)?

Is there anything else that would be better?

Thanks.

Can't go wrong with either in my book. I would say it all depends on what you want to be able to do.

Why not a .308 semi?

M1A, HKSR9 (T)or (TC), and the Armalites would fit the bill.

Remington 700 PSS in 308 with Leupold Mk 4 scope, rings & mounts with a harris bi-pod. get the Eagle shooting mat/dragbag. Get a Dewey cleaning rod & keep it in the drag bag. Then get a case of Federal Gold match ammo.

Mix it all up & find a place to shoot & have fun.

I have this set up in a 300 Winchester Mag. But I shoot often & can handle 100+ rounds a session. But you should start out with the 308 as it it easier to learn and can do 200 rounds without tireing.

Try to find a place with 1000+meters to shoot. We have a place in the high desert that has a mountain for a backstop and can go up to 2000 meters!! Tons of fun shooting 1 gallon plastic milk jugs full of colored water at 800 + meters!
