Unless they've moved Ethiopia in the last few days, yes.

Lots of Americans ride on Ethiopian.

And, this is the 2nd MAX 8 hull since October.

No survivors

The airline has a good reputation for safety. The last major accident involving an Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane was in 2010, when a Boeing 737-800 exploded after taking off from Lebanon, killing 83 passengers and seven crew.

Flew Ethiopian last October. Think I'll fly Emirates next time. Hoping they remember to put the landing gear down.

I don't want to be too simplistic about it, but "unstable vertical speed after takeoff" sounds a lot like that thing with Lion Air.

With the admittedly small amount of information at this time, I still find it troubling that it’s another MAX-8.

You can see a bunch of people in the background. I'm wondering how legit the pic is. That plane just took off and would have a lot of fuel on it. Should be a ton of stuff scorched or still smoking.

Speaking at a press conference CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde Gebremariam said the captain of the crashed plane had told controllers at Bole airport that he was having difficulty and wanted to return.

He said he had been given clearance.

I wonder how swa manages to fly these around and not crash them?

It’s a common airframe and in use here.  Just like the last one rtfm will probably be a factor.

Tourists and people who live life unlike 87% of GD who eats Cheetos in their Mom's Basement.   I have a trip to Africa in December and I was looking at Ethiopian but ended up using Delta Skymiles for flights on Delta and KLM.

United codeshares with Ethiopian Airlines.   When flying anywhere in the Middle East or Africa and trying to use United points you will more than likely end up on Ethiopian.

All the same, I prefer my pilots and maintenance people not to have first names like "Mbembwu."

My dad has been there several times.  Beautiful country with a lot of history.  They are 2/3 Christian and 1/3 Muslim.

He was there with my brother 3 years ago climbing to get ready for Mount Kilimanjaro.  They had a great time.

My wife and I flew Ethiopian from London to Ethiopia and then again from Ethiopia to Tanzania. Both flights were on a Boeing 787 and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The plane was new and clean and the flight attendants were super nice. Honestly it was a better flight overall than the majority I’ve taken in the US.

those pics look more like a garbage dump instead of a crash site.

With all that gas there should be burned stuff everywhere including a grass fire.

If that is a pic of the crash site, looks like there was no gas, but that would be extremely unlikely

so something is funky
