No survivors
The airline has a good reputation for safety. The last major accident involving an Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane was in 2010, when a Boeing 737-800 exploded after taking off from Lebanon, killing 83 passengers and seven crew. View Quote |

Flew Ethiopian last October. Think I'll fly Emirates next time. Hoping they remember to put the landing gear down.

I don't want to be too simplistic about it, but "unstable vertical speed after takeoff" sounds a lot like that thing with Lion Air.

With the admittedly small amount of information at this time, I still find it troubling that it’s another MAX-8.

You can see a bunch of people in the background. I'm wondering how legit the pic is. That plane just took off and would have a lot of fuel on it. Should be a ton of stuff scorched or still smoking. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Second hull loss in 5 months? Starting to wonder about the nanny systems.

Have a good buddy flying for them and haven't had a check in yet. Damn...

Speaking at a press conference CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde Gebremariam said the captain of the crashed plane had told controllers at Bole airport that he was having difficulty and wanted to return.
He said he had been given clearance. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6791675/Ethiopian-Airlines-plane-way-Nairobi-crashes-157-people-board.html |

I wonder how swa manages to fly these around and not crash them?
It’s a common airframe and in use here. Just like the last one rtfm will probably be a factor. |

NPR News reporting it was their Senior Pilot. Whatever that means.

those pics look more like a garbage dump instead of a crash site.
With all that gas there should be burned stuff everywhere including a grass fire. If that is a pic of the crash site, looks like there was no gas, but that would be extremely unlikely so something is funky |
|
No fire or smoke from the crash?
Strange. In for more updates. |

What's the big difference between the MAX8 and previous versions?
