Across Europe, official agree that illegal guns greatly outnumber known legal firearms.

Not surprising, considering how many hoops they make you jump through in order to own guns legally in some European countries Ð

France has a surprising number of shooters.
There are several French shooting websites.
Too bad there government doesn't trust them with anything in a "military caliber".  But then I guess they remember Bastille Day. [:D]
I think they need another one.

Nobody knows how many guns are in private hands but the number I hear bandied about is 200 million.  That means there is one gun for every 1.3 people.  That my friends, it a shitload of guns.

Not too long ago, the UN said it was something like 84 per 100 people or something like that. Which sucks. It PROVES that there are a bunch of slackers out there. We havent even hit a 1:1 ratio, and how many of us have 10+?

They aren't AR180's. Notice the (original) AR10 type of cocking handle? It looks like a trigger inside the carry handle. Also the receiver is very stretched out so I am guessing .308.

I would love to know what the hell they are and who makes them!

"Finland, with its strong hunting tradition, has the most legally registered guns in the EU at 39 per 100 people" (http://www.obv.org.uk/europe/eu20030702a.htm).  Are those guns part of your strong hunting tradition Tuukka?

Finland has the third highest ownership rate in the world, after the US and Yemen.  Germany and France are pretty high also, at 30/100.

Switzerland is surprisingly low, only 16 guns in civilian hands per 100 population.  Israel has only 6/100.  The Palenstinians have 21/100.

Also keep in mind that the figures can be deceptive in soume countries.

In Denmark and Sweden, for instance, the national guard ("home guard") keep their full-auto assault rifles and belt-fed MGs at their homes, with ammo.  Those are not considered "civilian" guns, and thus are not counted in gun ownership figures.

Tuukka,

Are those auto or semi?  I thought the EU banned civie ownership of automatics?

Is Finland part of the EU?

Thanks. Awesome guns.

UNITED NATIONS - More than half the world's 551Êmillion firearms are legally owned by private civilians rather than governments, with fewer than a million in the hands of insurgents, a new study on the global arms trade said Tuesday...

...The legal ownership total is skewed by the fact that about 250Êmillion legally owned guns are in the United States, 84 for every 100 people and about half the world's "known firearms."

These statistics are misleading.  They only take into account privatly owned firearms.
They do not include issued firearms in the home.
Switerland would be maybe as high as the US and Isreal would be much higher.  Also, more people in these countries would own firearms if they were not issued them.

They are neither AR180 nor AR10 in 308, but 12 gauge mixed semiauto pump-action Franchi SPAS15.
