I bought a digital camera, and it has a cable with a USB port end on it.  I don't have a USB port on my computer.  What do I need?

You need to buy a pci usb card.

A USB card, available at any Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Compusa, etc.  $30-40.

A PCI card that has a USB port on it.

Or if your computer doesn't have a USB port. It is probably time to get a new PC. [:D]

Newegg is a good place to buy computer parts.

What I think you need is a newer computer. USB ports have been standard on computers since about what, 1997? If you want to take up digital photography, you may want a newer system than one that was state of the art in 1996.

A new computer.

How old is your current computer?  It has to be at least 4 years old if it doesn't have a USB port.  Even if you get a USB card you will find that your computer is lacking in power when it comes to digital pictures.  You can get a pretty decent computer for $500 now.

Just an added note...before you get your USB card, make sure that you have a PCI slot available and then get yourself a multi USB card (4 usb ports).  Its better to have extra ports for other peripherals. [:)]

Good Luck.

when you buy your pci usb card, i would pick up a media reader as well.  this will let you just plug your camera's media (compact flash, memory stick etc.) directly into the reader and use it like a drive.  much much easier than using the software that and systems for downloading from the camera itself.

They also make a thing you can shove into your floppy disk drive that will read the camera. But, it sounds like you really should upgrade your system.

I don't even know if I have a slot available.  I guess I am going to just bite the bullet and buy a new box.  There goes the old christmas bonus.
