Haven't playes since 1.4; but enjoyed just sitting there sniping people. There is a nice spot on Bocage that nobody had discovered yet when I quit where you can snipe to your heart's content in peace all day long.

Hey maybe you can help me out! I was interested in battlefield 1942 BUT the cheating in counter-strike really put me off multi-player internet games. Is there any cheating going on in BF1942?

The only cheat I am aware of is the "no fog" cheat - which can hurt you as much as it helps since it cripples your machine speed to try and draw everything.

There were several "exploits" in v1.4 though that anyone could use. They involved problems with object collision mostly. I imagine most of the really bad ones have been fixed by now.

There are a ton of cheats available. They come and go with various patches but here are a few of the cheats that have been available:
turn infantry and vehicles into neon colors
add red and blue arrows over infantry heads

allow infinite zoom
add radar to track enemies(shows all people)
remove fog
auto aim

On the plus side the next patch (BF 1.6/DC 0.6)is supposed to have "Punkbuster" integrated into it.

I don't think cheating in BF42 is anywhere as bad as it was in Counterstrike/TFC. I tend to play on clan servers because they usually have Admins in game and watch for the cheaters who do show up.

How is the scoring done? I see Absolute has 174 but has 176 kills. All pain aside has 24 with 21 kills. I'm getting better at the game. I really love it.

you get points for capturing a point(flag). On Team kill servers you can loose points for killing a team mate, so total points could be 12 while enemy kills could be 16.
The first column is total points, second enemy kills, and third is times you died.
You can also loose points if you kill yourself

Ahhh. Thanks for the info. I figured it was that. I knew the rest of the collumns, just couldn't figure out the point totals. So, what are the last 2 columns? Connection speed and ?

Last column is your number on the game server. Helpful if you play on a server that allows for people to be voted off.

Not like it's big or anything. I always hit the stupid windmill in Bocage. Its like I have a tracking device zero'd in on it.

Flying question. When flying, what view do you use? Cockpit or one of the rear views? I can't see ground targets when in the cockpit mode. Another bitch. Why in the hell do people not wait for a landing craft to fill up some? That just pisses me off for some guy to just jump in alone & leave you on the deck of a ship with 4 others. Also, I just can't understand why Scouts don't spot more targets for arty....

Desert Combat rocks!  (and I only play single player)

Actually when I play arty, all I want is one or two scouts actively working for me. It is absolutely a pain to be working a target and then have it disappear becuase 5 other people are calling multiple times for arty on the same target I just had ranged from another view.

Really effective arty use can definitely own a game though. Especially on a map like Omaha, Kharkov or Kursk.

for fighters and light bombmers i use the 2nd first person view( the one w/o the cockpit controls) for the heavy bombers i use the 3rd person rear view
i got 95% of those kills in the BF109 flying in the 1st person view

I haven't played BF1942 in weeks. I just became a member of an all Wookiee guild in SWG, so I have been hanging with the guild mates.

Did some of those people accuse you of cheating?
