As some of you might have read I am building a log home in Pa. in the spring if all goes well.
I decided to make all the lighting and some of the furniture such as lamps and log beds. Below is 2 lamps I am finishing, they were from a tree a beaver chewed through and felled. I saw one on ebay last year and it went for almost $500.00, I guess when the Beaver makes it then it's worth big bucks as a natural product? The log lamps and beds go for high dollars and they are real simple, I couldn't see paying someone to do what I can do better and cheaper. If you guys are out hunting this year and see Beaver felled trees pick them up and turn them into something or IM me and I'll take em.   |

I have been working with wood since I was ten in a serious way. The two pieces of logs have been air drying in my climate controlled basement for over a year and the moisture content in the core is 18 percent, they aren't going to "check" or split anymore then they are right now. Thanks for your "concern" though. |

I think it's a great idea for your lodge. The Indians held the beaver in high regard. Where he dammed the stream, a lake would form or the river would widen, which helped foliage grow, which attracted wildlife, which in turn supported the Indians. On my last deer hunt in Colorado, I sat for hours watching a beaver work in a nearby stream. They are remarkable animals.

Did you coat it with any sealant or laquer? It looks shiny from the pics

The first pic was finished with a wipe on poly, 3 coats and is dry. The second pic is the second log lamp with a fresh first coat of wipe on poly and it's wet thats why it's shiny. |
