I was looking at a crossbow yesterday because it was on clearance. Regular price was $369.99 marked down to $147.98. I took a picture of the item with the tag and went home to research the quality. Today I went back to buy it and it rang up $369.99. I told them about the clearance price and told the manager where to find it. Instead of going to where I told her she went to the gun counter and they tolD her it was $369.99 so she called up to the cashier to tell me the price but she would reduce it to $299.99 for me. She called the cashier to tell me this so I told him I was coming back there so she could explain the tag to me. I went back to her and she was holding a tag with the regular price. I told her she didn't have the clearance tag and took her to the clearance aisle and showed her the tag with the item description, regular price and sales price along with the discount. She proceeded to tear the tag off the shelf and repeat again that all she would do was let me have it for $299. I called corporate and told them I would NEVER shop there again. This store is 1 mile from my house and I will drive to the Cabela's that is 6 miles from my house because theIR customer service goes overboard. I will also shop at Dicks even though their prices are higher because their service is second to none.

You snooze, you lose.
Here's my cool story about pricing: Back in the mid 90s, Sports Authority ran a sale for the Ruger Mk II SS, bull barrel. The flyer price was $229.99, or something like that. I drove down to a location in Kendall that had one in stock went to the counter and the fellow stated that the price was wrong in the flyer. I asked for the manager and showed him the ad and pled my case. He told me that he'd honor the flyer price and give me the deal. I quickly thought to myself and then asked if he had a second one and he said yes. I politely asked if I could buy the second one at the discounted price and he said yes! I sent that one to my little sister as a joke. Chris |

It's still on clear and. Clearance doesn't expire until they sell all of them. They aren't even on the Academy website anymore.

Dicks was willing to give me Black Friday prices a week after they ended. Dicks managers chased me thru the store to show me where something was after I asked the front desk guy where something was.
Sorry your experience is so bad. |

Should of snatched it up when you saw it. I was at Academy one day when a guy looked at a Mossberg MVP and one of the counter morons mounted a Vortex Viper on it to try and sale the rifle. To quote the moron "it looks cool". Guy had a chance of buying a rifle and getting a free scope until the sporting good manager walked up and told them the scope was $500 on top of the rifle price.

... a dick move, but it's their store and their rules
Like you said, you can usually go shop elsewhere |

I always buy something and I think I want it and return it later if I don’t especially at a great price

Girl at bar... "O.K. O.P., let's go back to my place and I'll let you screw me"... You say "No Way! - I gotta go home and research this first..."
Next Day, you say "O.K. Babe, let's get it on"... She then says "No Way - I was making a mistake last night and now that I've figured that out - No Way!"... ... |
|
Never had a problem at academy, even when returning ammo which supposedly is “against policy”. Being assertive yet respectful and showing their personnel that you aren’t there to screw around goes a long way...

Why didn't you buy the crossbow the day you saw it? Could always return it if you didn't like it. The policy says you can't but they always take them back.

Dick's Sporting Goods...that has to be a joke.
I will buy from them once a year. Black Friday. They have range buckets of 9mm and .40 at buy one get one. Otherwise they lost me when they went full retard after Newtown. |

Academy will put stuff on clearance and raise it back to regular price when they get the inventory down, I've seen it happen. If the item was marked as clearance you should have gotten the clearance price. Clearance is also sometimes store specific and not company wide.

A kid's bow is $147, so OP is retarded for not just buying it.

For the most part, I like academy.
I would never buy a gun there unless they gave me a smoking deal. I'd also never buy a crossbow |
|
Sorry OP. I just read this after buying a sweet crossbow at Academy for a clearance price of $147!
Could you summarize plz? |

You failed.
When you find an item like this you grab it off the shelf and walk 5 aisles down to the folding chair aisle. Take a seat, whip out the phone, and you should know in 10 minutes to buy it or not. Or.... just buy it and return it the next day if you don't want it. |

I'd say Academy is the best outdoor related store there is. I buy 90% of my shooting fodder and near that of of my fishing stuff there. I've also picked up a lot of clearance electronics there.

And here I thought they were pulling AR's and Magpuls from the shelves (again).

There’s really no telling why the price wasn’t right, but if you’ve ever worked retail you would know things get mislabeled or mispriced all the time. Customers will also frequently switch price tags to scam stores out of money.
