It takes a bright enough light to engage the darkness.

It's auto darkening... needs the light from starting an arc or other bright things to go dark.

the big knob sets the shade, the sensitivity sets when the helmet goes dark and the delay adjust how quickly it goes dark.
You need to crank the sensitivity all the way up. It still may not trigger the lens though. Make sure you are on shade 13 or 14 |

I tried mine yesterday. To get it to darken for the sun you need the sensitivity turned to Max. The outside knob is likely the darkness setting.

Duct tape a bright LED or IR LED to the light sensor part.

When was the last time you used it? Most lenses uses the arc flash to charge the batteries in the lens. The batteries may be shot if you let them completely drain. Some of the cheaper lenses are throw aways, you can not replace the batteries.
I use the spark from a lighter to test an auto darkening lens if it does not have a dedicated test button. |

The auto darkening masks will trigger when held up to any florescent light. Only triggers that way when held close. Quick way to test before you start an arc.

Turn all the dials to the right and try it. If that doesn't work, the batteries are dead.
If this it it, it's solar power with battery backup. Lay out in the sun for a bit and see if the batteries charge up. The thingy on the top right side is the solar cell(s)
