What year and how much are you looking at spending? I like Suburbans better, the GEN III is built proof.

Had a 2011 Suburban LTZ for 5 years and 40k miles. No problems at all with it. I like that the third row seats are removable for when we need more cargo space.

Give some thought to a full size van if you want passenger and cargo room.
Buy a used utility van and add some seats from the junk yard for 2nd, 3rd or even 4th rows. This is the cheapest option for max. space. |

The only issue I have with the Suburban is that they pricey. 20K for a Suburban and they are still over 100K miles

Suburban. A Tahoe can also be equipped with a third row, but it won't fit more than a couple bags of groceries.

The pros of going with the large SUV is not only daily driving the family, but taking them out hunting, camping, fishing etc.. The dirt road that we are going to live on can get a little rough and flooded during the monsoon season |

70 thousand miles is nothing to a Suburban, they even came with a 100,000 mile power train warranty.
Not so much for the Expedition, they tend to lose value and reliability after 60,000 miles. Cost of ownership is much lower with the Suburban platform, probably why the ratio of the Suburban/Expedition units on the road is around 10:1. |

Own a Tahoe and I would choose a Suburban or Yukon over an Expedition. My aunt had an Expedition and just recently traded it in on a Tahoe and the words from her mouth was I wish I had gotten a Tahoe a long time ago. She has had several Expedition over the years and is not a Tahoe person.
Mom has a brand new Tahoe I have an 04 with 120+K on it when it shits the bed I will get a brand new one. |

I love the expedition hate on here. 05 expedition 4x4 owner here, 179k miles and still driving everyday, gets the 4 kids around without complaint and tows a boat just fine. The re-sale value is significantly less than the tahoe/suburban but that makes it easier to afford and insure. Ours has 3rd row seats , rear dvd , comfy and handles well on our 8 miles of gravel roads to our house. Find onethats been maintained and you will enjoy it. Just my opinion

When I was looking a few years back and bought my Navigator: Yukon's, burbs, escalades and expeditions seemed to be a little more expensive. Having both brands in the family, I think the Burb's mechanicals will last a lot longer while the interiors are crap and the opposite is true for the fords. Not that either are bad but with the burbs the finish flakes off all of the control buttons seats fall appart. The navigators have issues with the air ride suspension.
I would buy either again in a heartbeat though. Burb's got 190k miles on it and other than a few relatively minor problems it's been great. I'm sure the navigator will hold up the same but it spends most of it's time in the garage because it's for towing my boat and atv's. |

I've owned a Suburban and an Expedition. Bought a four year old Suburban with 166K miles and drove it to 217K before blowing a head gasket. Otherwise, no significant issues. Lots of room, power and off-road capability.
Bought my four year old Expy at 44K miles and had zero issues until about 100K when I needed to change plugs (started running a little rough). Had that done at dealership and issue went away. Both were excellent vehicles. Expy was a little easier to park and felt a little more solid, with the trade-off of less cargo capacity. I would say the Expy held up a little better over time and still looks pretty much like it did when I bought it many years ago (son owns it now). Has 188K miles on it and going strong. |

We have a 2008 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 100k. It's been a great vehicle. I really can't think of anything I don't like about it. N

My boss went from a 09 Tahoe to an Expedition with the ecoboost V-6. He has had zero issues with the expedition, and i've pulled a trailer with it and it had all the power I needed and then some to roll down the interstate at 80 mph.
I'm a fan of the mid 2000's GM's though. I have a 05 yukon, the short wheel base with third row, bought it with 75K miles, and haven't had to do anything to it other than routine fluid changes, tires, and brakes. Have put 60K miles on it since buying. Only thing I don't like about it is the AWD. I wish it was selective 2wd/4wd, but I believe the tahoes and suburbans are that way similar to the silverados drive train. |

I have owned both.
First was an 04 Expy Eddie Bauer 2wd. With 230k miles on it when my wife wrecked it with 6 precious little ones one board. All kids were protected extremely well with no injuries in a hwy 50 mph collision. It was with out a doubt the best vehicle I have ever owned. Very few issues. I lost it in May of this year. I purchased a 2012 Suburban 4wd with 71,000 miles. I've put 15,000 miles on it since May. This truck may end up being even better then my Expedition if I can get it to over 200k miles in it. |

2003 Expedition with the 5.4 4wd. 212k miles without an issue until last week. Intake manifold gasket. 13mpg in town, 20 @ 70mph. It has been a great vehicle. Routine maintenance is all that it has needed. 700$ in repairs in 13 years is a pretty good run. This is my second Expedition, first one was just as good. Sold it at 160k.

The previous generation Yukons are nice, both mom and dad had one until mom got herself the craptastic new generation Denali that has had recall after recall.
Dad's 07 has about 170k miles and the only problem has been electrical gremlins with the Stabilitrak/ABS every few weeks on startup that go away if you restart it. |
