I took advantage of being in Alabama to decorate my grandparents headstone.
I got there and found there was a good bit of green discoloration. It's shaded area.
I keep Fast Orange in the car. IT WORKED!!

I didn't have a brush but it got a lot of it off.

For next time, any advice on something more efficient or purpose made.

The green residue is organic so you might want to use something that will slow it's growth. I used Simple green on my foundation and it cleaned all the green residue off but it will probably come back next summer.

Makes sense.  
That stuff is good for a lot of things.

Your grandmother lived a long life.  Man, the things she was able to witness in her life...

I haven't tried it on a headstone, but Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work like... magic on other ceramics. Needs to be damp though.

Clorox Mildew remover /thread

Me and the wife wanted to clean up her mothers headstone.
It had black mold and green moss on it, plus the regular grunge that collects over the years.

We contacted the company that made the headstone and they told us it was a granite headstone with a marble inlay.

They told us not to use any mold killer cleaners or normal household cleaners, soaps and detergents (Ivory, Formula 409, bleach, TSP, laundry detergents, dish detergents, etc.) to clean headstones.
They were very adamant about not using acids such as Muriatic acid or Phosphoric acid.

They said the best way to clean the headstone was to use fresh warm water with soft bristle brushes, toothbrushes and elbow grease.
That's what we did.

Noted for next time

We used a bottle of Coca Cola on my wife's dads headstone. Cleaned it very well. Almost like new...

She was a very strong woman.
