Late last nite, after the 10:30pm news casts.........city officials announce one of the refineries has had a chemical leak into the city water system.
Water is unsafe to drink...even if boiled.
This morning, Corpus Christi officials won't say what refinery back flushed chemicals into the drinking water system or what chemicals are involved.
ALL schools cancelled.
ALL the major stores are out of water.   HEB and WalMart sold out before 11:30pm.  At 5:30am this morning  BOTH stores are still out.

No word on how long the water ban will be in effect.   Can't drink it, can't cook with it, suggested not to bath in it.

Not a good situation.<img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

UPDATE NOON Thursday: news is saying the leaked chemical Indulin AA-86 made of 2 chemicals: lndulin and hydrocloric acid.
The Ergon asphalt company was shown installing two 2" back flow preventers THIS MORNING!

Police are guarding stores and keeping order with block long lines of residents waiting hours for water to be delivered for sale. Pickups are seen driving off with the bed full of water when it is available.

My surprises face

We've had more than a few problems with our water system. City did jack shit about it back then too. Previous mayor was all about "muh roads!"

So a friend of mine moved from Flint, Michigan to Corpus Christi and she's been bragging about the weather and clean water.  Then this happened..  Seeing everyone rag on her on facebook about it last night.

This is the 3rd water ban in the last 12 months.

However, the first two were possible bacterial contamination.    This ONE IS a chemical contamination.

And yes, the weather is bad too.   Too damn cold.  Saturday temps will drop to 80 degrees.....brrr.   Going to have to break out my winter tee shirt and shorts.

Yeah, woke up and was like "OH fucks sakes not again." I hate to start drinking Shiner at 0800 but what choice is there.

UPDATE:  Mayor held QnA session to explain the situation.  He was upfront and honest.   NO fancy political evasive language.

Looks like it was just a small leak into the water system and should not really have any effect on the general public.

Hopefully, the ban is lifted very soon.

Thank you for your notes of concern and sympathies.

UPDATE:    2/3 RDS of Corpus now has chem free water.   Should see rest ban lifted tomorrow.

Good news.   No more lines at stores.  No more police making sure everyone plays nice.

I shipped to uncle sam out of corpus... real sad what's going on.

They waited seven days to tell the people their water has industrial contaminants in it. This is the fourth time in 2 years the city has warned its citizens not to consume the water. But now it's even worse because they can't safely come into contact with it. Sure some people are doing it anyways, but I also knew a guy who splashed PD6-80 on his face because it looked harmless....

No effing way... wow.

From what I know about both cities, I would still call Flint an upgrade

OK............city is saying water is good to go.      Cooking, drinking, washing all good.

Glad there won't be groups of police standing in front of stores keeping things civil.
