Immigrants' rights group asks agents to stop using hollow bullet points
Jun 13, 2003
Saying that hollow-point bullets are too deadly, a Washington D.C.-based immigration advocacy group has requested that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stop their use by border-area agents.
Donald Kerwin, executive director of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, provided The Sun with a copy of its letter to the department on Thursday. He said the organization hasn't yet received a response to the letter, which was sent on June 3.
The letter states hollow-point bullets expand by 160 percent on impact, and it asks the department to reconsider using them as it prepares to purchase approximately 225 million rounds of ammunition.
