Ive always wore a simple cheap Timex expedition even after cell phones were common place ,many because I use it to time stuff at work multiple times a day plus when on the kayak or boat you dont have to worry about losing your phone overboard just checking the time . Last year I got a free smart watch via amazon , the Motorola 360 and got spoiled to having a compass on my wrist but didnt like the short battery life of a smart watch . Well a wave wiped the watch out a couple of months ago so Im due for a new one and tonight I got to looking for a new dumb watch then the wife reminded me Christmas is coming that was my hint not to buy one and just put one in my wishlist .  I love the look of analog and most things I time are in seconds a second hand is handy .... I work in around diesel , gas , electrical ,water so leather and metal bands are a no go . I really was hoping to get a watch with a compass since it was right helpful at times , so I looked at some casio gshock watches and then found the pro trek line ....... very nice but pricey but the PRW-3000 fell right within what me and my wife normally spend on each other. I also looked at the GA-1100 gshock I liked that it had an analog face but wasnt crazy about the 49 mm size which the 3000 is 46 so not alot of difference there . I havnt looked around a lot yet so any other brands is fine Im not stuck on casio just post up your suggestions.    TIA

Seiko 5 is an excellent automatic and can be had for under 100 bucks. There are many choices of styles also.

Blackhawk Deep Sea Operator. I got one of these for $85 last year on Black Friday. It has been pretty good. I've swum with it, body surfed with it, smacked it into doorways and it has held up. It is discontinued but it does have a nice crystal and movement.

I got a G-Shock atomic solar under $100 a few years ago. The time is always exact and never have to worry about changing batteries.

You can get a Casio for less than $30. I got one thinking it was a throwaway. The damn thing has lasted for years and years, and keeps excellent time.

I have my Dad's self-winding Omega. It needs professional overhaul every year or so, at $100 a pop. I got tired of spending money on it, and it sits in a drawer.

Draw your own conclusions.

You can say what you want about Invicta, as they make a lot of wonky shit, but you can't really beat the automatic Pro Diver series without spending hundreds more.

All stainless construction.

Seiko NH35 movement (24 jewels/hand wind/hacking.) Mine runs +/- 5 seconds a day.

Screw down exhibition case back.

Screw down crown.

Unidirectional 120 click bezel.

200 meter water resistance.

All applied dial.

Decent lume.

Solid link bracelet with safety clasp.

All for about $80.

That's what I wear.  I have one with a black face and one with a tan face.  I ended up wearing the tan face on the black band...easier on my eyes and looks great.

EDIT: Jomashop has them as low as $59.  I would go with the wife buying a Casio of your choice but you sneak one of these Seiko 5's in on your own.

Suunto core all black military. I had one that I wore 24-7 for a period of about 5 years straight in the .mil. went through a few deployments and several field exercises and plenty of daily abuse. Some dick stole it from my gym bag. I just ordered a replacement after a couple years of not having one. A note they are battery operated and it needs to be changed annually along with the gasket for waterproofing. Also the bands tend to break at about the 2 Year mark with hard wear, but they are cheap to replace.

I have that exact watch but never wear it.  It feels and looks tiny so I always wear the SKX009 or an Orient Ray II.

Are they all raw metal colored, or do they make one with a black watch body? I like that look. But I'd want the black band, face, and watch body with white numbers and hands.

Here's one more vote for the Seiko 5.  Simple, clean, and pretty damn durable for $70 or so.

After about a year, the nylon strap is getting a little rough, but I've planned on replacing it with a leather one from the beginning.

Compass?

Casio SGW100B. $48-54 and in store at Walmart.

The only measurable way to ensure water tightness is to get a Dive rated watch which has a tested case. Rolex Submariners, triple sensor watches from Casio and the G-Shocks will do it without Dive on the dial.

Analog vx Digital, oh my. If you need to see the time first glance, analog with bright lume markers. If you can tinker or take the moment, then otherwise. Some analogs control a fourth hand for the direction indicator.

You can spend hours on this stuff: https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A0LEVi8xRDxY_9EAAM0nnIlQ?p=compass+watches&fr=yhs-mozilla-002&fr2=piv-web&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-002

Good luck.

Have thePRW-3000 and love it. Going on 3 years old and still looks good. I did switch out the stock band for a NATO BAND(s). Easy to switch out and change the look. When one gets dirty I just throw it in the wash.
