After hounding the local president for two weeks, I finally got a face-to-face meeting with the "branch executive" that posted the signs. She listened to me politely and promised to discuss the issue the next day with the president. Today I got their official answer: NO. They will not remove or alter the signs even if I paid for it. I'm trying to track down the chairman of the board, but meanwhile I could use a hand...
Please send a few words of dismay to these folks, just to let them know that I'm not the only one who cares about issues like this. Or just send my pre-written note below.
Muchas gracias, amigos.

[email protected]I am dismayed to learn that your YMCA branch has chosen to take sides on a political issue. While guns are a controversial issue, it would be better to keep your personal biases separate from official business.
Please reconsider removing or altering your "no firearms" signs.
Sincerely,
