I try to avoid cursing. Especially when writing.

If it's used gratuitously, for the sake of doing so or because of a lack of vocabulary, then I think it's inappropriate. Otherwise, I think it fits in as slang to describe a certain mood or feeling in informal conversation.

There was a thread about this awhile back.  The general take seemed to be to keep it toned down for subject lines but pretty much anything goes in the post itself, within forum rules, of course.

Depends on the situation.

Construction Job. OK

Resturant. Not OK

DI,trying to get point across. OK, if they allow that anymore.

Forum, where youngsters might read it and think it is cool, and the way people talk in public. Not OK

If you have to curse to make your point, you need to broaden your vocabulary.

I was over 18 before I ever heard a curse word out of my hero.

My Father.

He was MAN enough to get his point across without cursing.

I dont use curse words.  Personally I see their use as a lack of education.

But everyone is free to say what you want.

A few here think the use of cuss words denotes a low IQ, Well [red]Fuck[/red] that theory , mine is 144 so there goes that might grey matter of wisdom.
I think words are just that words, they only have the power you grant them no more and no less.

There is a time and place for everything.  I have no need to try to impress anyone here, nor do I feel this is a formal setting that should exclude the use of certain words.

So, Gary Coleman says it best:

With the constant PCing of language that is so rampant now I use cursing as a form of protest. So many words have been altered into "newspeak" I do my damnedest to fight against becoming one of them. I especially like to use the word (Here I go for the banning!!-->)nigger (<- Am I banned yet?) because the constant loud scream to outlaw it. No, I am not making that up, some folk are trying to make it a crime to speak it. I refuse to either assist or even be silent about it. 1st Amendment rights are as important as the 2nd Amendent and I want both of them to survive.
Call me uneducated or stoopid (IQ=130+) but I refuse to become one of the assimilated.

Certain swear words and phrases are elemental colloquialisms, and indeed ingrained in certain regional dialects. As such, I believe it is unfair to categorically deny the use of these contested words and phrases from ordinary adult conversation. First of all, they're just words. Second, I think we should all be adult enough to not take offense to the judicious use of certain words and phrases that have come to have deep and varied contextual meanings in ordinary American adult conversation. Finally, I agree that gratuitous use of any word or phrase, swearing or not, betrays a deficiency on the part of the abuser, inasmuch as there must be a more erudite manner in which to convey the message.

That good enough for you motherfuckers?

Fucker
Fuckee

Fucktastic
Fucknasty

Using curse words for emphasis in writing is a proven technique.  Typically it denotes low IQ so choice of when and where depends on the image you want to convey about yourself.

Some of the members even on this post, Mike, use cuss words and it's really funny for it is not common of them or their personalities.  While others it rolls off their post like it does their tongue.

Continual use of obsenities show lack of character and intelligence.

If I wanted to read cuss words all day I would hang out in a chat room or listen to my brother in law talk.

When I was a kid everytime my dad caught me saying the "F" word he would say, "Only a moron will take lifes biggest pleasure and turn it into a curse."  Think about it.

I understand actor James Wood is a Mensa member, I also understand that he is well degreed in theatrics.  Which would indicate a broad range of vocabulary.

However, while on a recent sports segment on ESPN, he's a single digit handicap golfer, they had to bleep him out every other phrase because he was cursing so much.....

I'm sure if he needed to, he could cut out the use of the word "fuck", but then it wouldn't be the same.

Wonder what George Carlin's act would be like without a "fuck" in it? [XX(]

Mark me down as anti-swearing.
Reasons?
1. My personal convictions.
2. It's a measure of self-control.
3. My son. I have an example to set.

Generally speaking, I ag'in it.

If yer curse words are more than very occasional, yer prolly relying on them too much.

I find frequent curse words a sign of an unimaginative mind, as the English language is rich in its ability to express a thought.

And for my opinion, I'm sure to receive a few unimaginative responses.  [:D]

But its not like your curse words are gonna send you to hell, or anything.
