But how many current LEO's are there in prison? This guy was on duty, not retired.

The above was sarcasm.

I saw a handful of attorneys arrested in the courtroom while working for drunk in public.  Always gotta wonder how they passed law school.

I can name 2 judges that I personally saw that were drunk in court.  One is dead now (alcohol related) and the other was just forced into retirement for sexual harassment.

Do you mean that a grievance against a defense attorney that is written on prison stationary doesn't carry any weight with the state bar?

Officer Arthur Thompson was charged with DUI after a supervisor detected the odor of alcohol allegedly coming from him. Police said the supervisor was investigating a citizen complaint involving Thompson Sunday around 2:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of 18th Street, Southeast.

Probably from a traffic stop.

Officer: Sir, have you been drinking tonight? I smell alcohol.

Citizen: The alcohol smell is coming from you officer.

Of course there are. Occasionally public pressure forces them to throw someone under the bus otherwise suffer endless accusations of cover-ups.

Non DC-area Arfcomers or Youngins' :  these are references to former Mayor Marion Barry ( now dead - thankfully).

He served 2 terms and was then jailed for smoking crack on hidden camera in an FBI sting (everyone DC knew for years he was a crack head).

Then the wise citizens elected him for a 3rd term.. These same people are now demanding we give them 2 senators, a few congress critters, and lots more political power.

Anywho - Barry fostered a culture of corruption in the MPD.  You can't underestimate the damage he did to DC on all levels.

The MPD has some serious lingering issues it needs to resolve.

Citizen complaint was why it was investigated.
If he were caught by a fellow cop, it would have been swept under the rug, but the incident would be noted in his permanent file.

Depends, the Feds were after a cop I knew for decades. Maybe a cop can still escape drunk driving (maybe sometimes) or a domestic, but I know retired cops who were charged over drugs or kiddie porn and it was no fucks given

Impossible!  Everyone knows that the solution to today's problems in LE are all because cops aren't like they were in the 'good ole days'.  LE needs to be more like it was in the 40s and 50s.

Domestics are usually a killer, but first time DUIs, even on duty, still usually only get a (very long) suspension here.

I can understand that.   Hard to be a cop when you are legally barred from posessing a firearm.

Ok, please tell us what would you do if you were the employer and were trying to fire this officer and had to go through a civil service hearing?  Remember, MPD is not only the charging agency, they are also the employer.  When someone gets fired at your work, do they plaster pictures of the employee up, or release info to the press?  Or, is the person showed out with a file box of their stuff and management refuses to talk about it?
