They have a tread depth stated somewhere in the lease turn in paperwork, so you'll be on the hook either way. |

Say the car has 30k mile tires and you put 30k on the car then worn out tires are reasonable wear.
FWIW Ive never been able to get very many miles out of factory tires. eta - Ive always bought new vehicles and never leased before |

Tires are like, rediculously important. Good tread depth means you stop better and speed up better too.
Get two cheap ones or used ones with decent tread left, have peace of mind, have a better performing safer vehicle, and you won't skid off the road and wreck with 1 month left on the lease. They will bang you for new tires and their prices will be much higher than your own local tire shop. |

For the safety of you and your family and people around you at least put some new inexpensive tires on the car. A blowout could be deadly. |

I know that GM (and I think many others) will send you a turn in packet which includes a cardboard template for checking for things like chips, dents, and tire wear. You do have to have a reasonable amount of tread left (about 1/4 or so IIRC) or they will charge you for new tires. Same for any large dents or paint chips, cracked windshield, etc. |

At one time in life, I was that guy who evaluated your lease turn in. If you aren't getting a new car from that maker they will look a LOT closer at your turn in. Put on the used tires...

You're going to be buying new tires for it one way or another. I'd buy them now for two reasons:
1. You get to control the amount of money spent. 2. The safety of the vehicle that your daughter drives. |

Depends on the leasing company and their guidelines. Why not call them? Are they still legal depth? If not, that may be one determination of whether you will get charged as they will have to replace prior to disposing of the unit at auction. Be careful of just replacing 1 or 2 with a different manufacturers tire. You may also get charged for "mismatched" tires. Can you have a pre-inspection done before turning it in?

I am not proud of forgetting about simple maintenance and I have no excuse. 3 years went by with a fingersnap. And, the electric-car part of it kinda throws you off......you are never changing the oil or checking fluids or even putting gas in the damn thing......so I really never look at it. Just plug it in. It is like a hairdryer sitting in my garage. |

So I just recently did a lease buyout. I got the inspection report that I asked them to do as if it was a end of lease inspection. For the same tires I got at costco installed for $800 they were asking $1,800. So yes you should replace them. If you don't the dealer doing the inspection will and charge you some serious money for them. |

Race slicks are very specialized in compound, and there's a reason race rain tires exist. Worn out passenger tires are proven to stop in greater distances than tires with proper tread depth. |
