Since we're on a car kick lately, what do you pick? and let me know if I miss something:
Dodge Viper Maseratti Porsche 911 Carrera 4s (the GT3 almost makes it but it's $100k) Acura NSX Lotus Esprit Jaguar XKR |
In my book the Viper is a muscle car, and the NSX is a car from the planet Mongo. [;D]
What about the Z3/Z8 or M3/M5? |
Definitely the Porsche.
Dad had a 911 back in '85. (1976 year model) Wasn't all souped up or anything, but it was a nice car. He said he got it up to 140mph on the autobahn and it was solid as hell. (lived in Germany at the time). It was black. The guy next door had an '83... pearl white with the whale tail... It was nice to see them both parked next to each other. |
And here I am scraping 4k together so I can get another rusted out, used up, POS so I can take my Mustang (rusting and falling apart) off the line so I can fix it correctly.
Count another vote for the M5, and dont forget the Acura NSX @ MSRP of 89000 |
viper caressed over a bit
or vette z06 sent to mr. lingenfelter either way i'd kill myself |
OK, since the M5 keep cropping up, maybe I should be clear.
A sports car is: Rear wheel drive 2 door fast, either in the twisties or the straights, maybe both, but has to be one. For example, the Miata is a sports car, but so is the mustang (for our purposes here) Also, the M5 MSRP is $71k, so it's not really in the range here. |
Saleen Mustang with money left over for a shorty M-16 , and assorted other goodies for the trunk.
Give me $80k-$90k and I'll like any sports car you care to name!
I'll take the Maserati, thank you very much. It's a bargain Ferrari.
actually, the viper has come along leaps and bouds with the new SRT-10. it's breaks and motor are enough to tople a $400k lambogini. if i recall correctly, C&D listed it as the buy of the year for bang for the buck.
You should use the POLL button!
I agree with the 911. Best bang for the buck! Mercedez-benz is tough to beat for Luxury and performance, however. I'm waiting to trade up to the new SL500. |
Quoted: You should use the POLL button! View Quote Poll only gives me 5 choices, I listed six. I was also hoping that more folks would have some actual discussion, haha. |
The Porsche 911 for that exotic feel or the Corvette for the "American" feel![:D]
BigDozer66 |
M5, but list is more like 70k.
Edit: Based on your criteria I like the: - Lotus Esprit ( discontinued? ) - Porsche 911 GT2 ( more than that though. I even saw one on a car trailer before ) - Ferrari Testarossa ( used ) |
C4S is next to god.
Corvette would be a better bang for the buck IMHO. I wish I like them more, just dont. I havent driven either in 6 years. Are you looking or just dreaming ????? |
Quoted: 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG in Black Opal Pearl. Killer. View Quote you're kidding right? that car weighs over 4000 pounds. |
I dunno, I gotta go with the XJ220. Of course, the right wardrobe would be important with this car. [rolleyes]
[img]http://www.seattlejagclub.org/images/ijf05.jpg[/img] And while it's a little steep at $670,000 the Ferrari Enzo would make a good choice as well: |
Quoted: IMO the NSX doesn't perform like a 90K "super" car should. View Quote The *real* problem with the NSX is that it is butt ugly. If I had to drive one I'd wear a brown paper bag over my head. [;D] |
Does it have to be new? Because a Lamborghini Countach can be had for about that much, and it can still turn heads like nothing else.
Give me some american muscle, 1970 Boss 429 or Chevelle SS 454. I could get two Shelby GT-500's for that. Put the rest away for toys. Or blow it all on a Shelby Cobra.
For a late model car those Shelby Series 1's look good. |
Easy - a lightly used 993 Twin Turbo - Porsche, there is no substitute!
Quoted: IMO the NSX doesn't perform like a 90K "super" car should. View Quote I agree, but it's a sports car and it fits the price criteria, unlike the cars that lots have chosen to add to the list. A mercedes for chrissake? |
M3 tuned by Dinan. Not exactly a "factory" car, but it will carry a Dinan factory warranty, and Dinan's work does not void the other parts and system's warranties from BMW.

That Mercedes w/ the AMG package would definately be able to haul. All while cradling your pampered ass like no other.
LOL What about a Lotus Elise? Or a Z06 and a GXR1100? edit: about the Panoz, because it looks much better than any current mustang. Doesn't it handle better too? |
I would rather buy a 427 Thunderbolt and put a 427 SOHC in it.

View Quote You're right....FINE! I want a Motorex Skyline R-33. They have one right now for $80K with, um I think, 800hp... Then I would definitely be the only one in my state to have one...... All the cars that are offered new at this price point can be beat by cars a tad lower @ $40K-$60K with $20K-$40K in mods.......[nana] Yep, that settles it......MotoRex Skyline GT-R R33...... The point was factory cars. My point about the Panoz was really just that I don't much get the point. There are cars that will ourperform it for LESS money, not less money plus mods. I actually feel the same way about the NSX, but the NSX followers always shout about it being better than the #'s show so I threw it in. |

Well this is a tad bit more than $90K but I think it'll do. Give me $90K, I can finance the rest [;)]

If I had 90K to spend, a car wouldn't be my first priority...but okay...here goes:
25K - VW Passat TDI 25K - Pay down my mortgage 40K - Pay for an addition to my house |
m5,
AND SCREW you on the 4 door issue. [:D] Take off the top end limiter, and it will do 180 geez and you can scare the pants off of 3 passengers instead of 1 TXL |

I would take a Viper if we are going to stay stock. However I think that a Z06 would be the best alocation of the money if we could use extra to modify it.

The NSX is an excellent car for the money butis not for the claustrophobic.
I know I'm gonna take a lot of shit for this, but Porsches (excluding the Boxer) look like a squashed VW Bug to me. Testarossas (the newer ones, not the original Testa Rossa) practically need to be disassembled to be serviced. The Enzo is just plain nuts! The Murcielago is probably as cool an exotic as is out there, but I think the big kid's toy pictured here attracting tree sap(360 Modena) has great lines for a hardtop, although double the the price range we're taking about. In that range I'll go with an XKR ragtop. Not a performance beast but very classy. |

I like the $500 pickup and $89,500 worth of guns and ammo option.
I will take a Fully loaded BMW Z4, and use the extra for a new BMW bike.
Or..the new viper... but the Z4 looks nicer! =) |
