Both me and my FAL like the 148 grain military surplus but my Remington 700 doesn't. The Remington enjoys a more standard 165/168 grain "hunting" round which runs about three or more times more expensive than the mil-surplus 148 stuff.

You're rifle will vary and I suggest that if you're looking to invest five hundred dollars in a bulk buy of .308 you first test out samples of 20 rounds from various manufactures and find the one you're rifle enjoys.

With my Remington I sampled the military surplus I had and found that it didn't like them (three to five inch five round groups at 100 yards). So I got four different 165/168 grain rounds to try out looking for something better than 4 moa [rolleyes]

What works in my rifle won't in yours except by luck. Try the 165 and 168 grain match boattail rounds in the flavor you like. The .308 has everything from hollowpoints, softpoints, spirepoints, and even solid bullets available. If that weight of bullet isn't big enough step up to the 180 grain range and sample around there.
